Frankfurt - Deutsche Fußball Liga GmbH Vice-President Harald Strutz and CEO Andreas Rettig will present Bundesliga 2 champions 1. FC Köln with the Meisterschale on Matchday 33 this Sunday.

The Billy Goats will be honoured after their match with FC St. Pauli at the RheinEnergieStadion, Köln’s final home game of the season. Peter Stöger’s side were confirmed champions on Matchday 31 thanks to a 3-1 victory over VfL Bochum.

Seven virtues

The trophy they are due to receive was first presented to the 2009 Bundesliga 2 winners, SC Freiburg. Its design is based on the plate given to the Bundesliga champions, and it consists of 925 carat polished sterling silver, weighing 8.5 kilograms with a diameter of 50 centimetres. A 1.2 kg rock crystal is embedded in the middle of the plate, at the centre of a star with seven points.

The star represents the charisma of Bundesliga 2 and the sparkle of the champions, with its seven offshoots symbolising the seven virtues that Bundesliga 2 champions require: passion, team spirit, a winning mentality, perseverance, technique, tactical nous and nerve. In addition to the points of the star, seven smaller plates are engraved into the surface, on which are etched the names of every champion since the introduction of Bundesliga 2 in 1981/82. The insurance value of the trophy is 30,000 Euros.
