Die Flingeraner have made the decision following the club's poor showing in the first half of the season, which has seen them win just five of their first sixteen games and suffer heavy losses against SC Paderborn (6-1) and FC Erzgebirge Aue (3-0). Büskens' final game in charge was Matchday 16's 2-0 home reverse against Karlsruher SC.
A statement from the board of directors said that the decision had not been easy, since "Mike Büskens had always worked with passion, enthusiasm and never lost sight of the club's identity".
Düsseldorf face away trips to 1. FC Kaiserslautern and FC Energie Cottbus in their next two games, before finishing 2013 with a crucial derby clash at home to 1. FC Köln.
