Berlin - 1. FC Union Berlin stayed ghot on the heels of Greuther Fürth courtesy of a comprehensive 3-0 win on home soil against SV Sandhausen.

A Union side intent on hauling itself onto the top of the league began well, seeing more of the ball than their guests. After 25 minutes, their pressure was rewarded through a lovely goal from midfielder Torsten Mattuschka. His curling drive from the edge of the box was a signal to increase the pressure, and the in-form hosts were unlucky not to go into the break further in the lead.

Finding the second proved no problem after the break however, as Mattuschka turned provider, creating a chance so that Union centre-forward Simon Terodde had little to do beyond tap the ball in. Sören Brandy then rounded out the scoring with his fourth goal of the season to move Berlin level on points with league leaders Greuther Fürth for the time being.
