Munich - TSV 1860 Munich have parted ways with coach Alexander Schmidt in the wake of Friday evening’s defeat to SV Sandhausen.

The decision was taken following a meeting involving the club’s board and management on Saturday morning.

Lack of progression

“We will now take our time to find a successor,” said sporting director Florian Hingerberger. “Until then, assistant coach Markus von Ahlen will lead the training together with his colleagues Denis Bushuev and Kurt Kowarz.”

“Alex did a very good, expert job and was totally committed to reaching our goals. However, the development of the team has not recently progressed as we would have liked it,” said CEO Robert Schäfer. “We have reacted early so as not to endanger our aims for the season.”
