Ingolstadt - Ambitious Bundesliga 2 side FC Ingolstadt 04 are coming to terms with how hard it can be when you are hunted after failing to get their season up and running at the third attempt.

Karlsruher SC this time punished the Bavarians’ profligacy to come away with a surprise 2-0 win from the Audi-Sportpark, thanks to second-half goals from Ilijan Micanski and Selcuk Alibaz.

All but score

After losing their first two games of the season, Ingolstadt hoped it would be a case of third time lucky, and for long spells of the game, it certainly looked that way. All that was lacking from Marco Kurz’s side was a finish, though, and they almost found themselves paying the price in the 30th minute when Jan Mauersberger hit the post for the guests.

Although Ingolstadt enjoyed most of the possession, the better chances continued to fall at the other end of the field. And it was former Ingolstadt forward Micanski who came back to haunt them with a 58th-minute goal, curling the ball expertly into the corner with the outside of his boot. Six minutes later, an unfortunate deflection off Caiuby curled Alibaz’s direct free-kick unstoppably past Ramazan Özcan and Ingolstadt’s third defeat in a row was sealed.
