Düsseldorf - Stefan Reisinger's second-half penalty against FC Energie Cottbus got Fortuna Düsseldorf off to a winning start under new head coach Mike Büskens back in Bundesliga 2 on Monday evening.

The 1-0 victory also sets up last season's second-bottom Bundesliga side nicely for what promises to be a hotly-contested Rhineland derby against 1. FC Köln, another leading promotion contender, this coming Sunday.

Despite having been the more adventurous of the two sides in front of an almost sell-out crowd at their ESPRIT Arena, Düsseldorf were left frustrated for much of the game with Cottbus custodian Robert Almer in brilliant form against his former team-mates. Axel Bellinghausen and Andreas Lambertz both failed to convert from glorious opportunities in the first half, but Fortuna finally did find a way past the Austrian keeper, Reisinger coolly slotting home from the spot after being fouled himself just past the hour mark. The visitors weren't without their chances to snatch a late draw, but their rare efforts came to no avail.
