Paderborn - 1. FC Kaiserslautern’s new signing Simon Zoller opened his account for the Red Devils to secure a 1-0 win at SC Paderborn on Matchday 1.

In an open and entertaining encounter at the Benteler-Arena, there were chances at both ends with new signing Rick ten Voorde bringing the best out of Tobias Sippel with a powerful shot in the 16th minute. Kaiserslautern responded with some prolonged possession, albeit without finding any way through an organised Paderborn rearguard until midway through the second half.

Newly-recruited Zoller stole in unmarked to meet a flicked header from Mohamadou Idrissou and show how he scored 15 goals in 3. Liga for VfL Osnabrück last season with a clinical finish. Idrissou had three good chances to seal victory, but Zoller’s goal proved enough to get Kaiserslautern’s promotion push off on the right foot.
