Sandhausen - In a clash between two of last season's newly-promoted sides, there was nothing to separate SV Sandhausen and VfR Aalen as both took a share of the spoils in a goalless draw on Matchday 1 of the 2013/14 Bundesliga 2 campaign.

The visitors will have felt aggreived not to go in at the break a goal to the good after dominating proceedings in the first half, boasting eights shots to Sandhausen's one, though most failed to find the target. Michael Reichwein in particular was giving the hosts' backline cause for concern, but the half-time team talk from head coach Alois Schwartz seemed to rouse Sandhausen from their summer slumber. The hosts began taking more risks going forward and almost snuck into the lead when Frank Löning looked to profit from a goalmouth scramble. Aalen's best chance came when Enrico Valentini drew a sprawling save out of Marco Knaller, but in the end neither side was able to break the deadlock in a cagey opening day encounter.
