Paderborn - SC Paderborn have appointed Andre Breitenreiter as their new head coach for 2013/14, with a contractual option to extend at the end of the season.

Breitenreiter, 39, arrives from Regional League (North) outfit TSV Havelse, whom he steered clear of relegation after taking over at the start of 2011 and has subsequently guided up to currently second place in the table. The club with the smallest budget in the division also racked up a DFB Cup Round 1 victory over Bundesliga side 1. FC Nuremberg under his watch.

"Qualities to lead a team"

"I'm confident that in Andre Breitenreiter we've found the right head coach for the club. At Paderborn, he has the opportunity to take the next step forward in his career," club president Wilfried Finke said of the new man, who finished third top of the 2013 class of DFB coaching graduates.

"Andre Breitenreiter has the footballing and personal qualities needed to lead a team. Together, we can now start planning our squad for the 2013/14 season," sporting director Michael Born added of the former Hannover 96, Hamburger SV, VfL Wolfsburg and SpVgg Unterhaching professional.
