Hertha Berlin's U19s have defended their crown at the second edition of the Silverlakes Cup in California, an ambitious youth tournament launched by Bundesliga legend Jürgen Klinsmann in 2018.

The four-day event was staged in Norco, California, a town located approximately 50 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, between
24th– 28thJuly. Hertha were one of six teams participating, alongside VfB Stuttgart, LA Galaxy, Club Tijuana, as well as American clubs Crossfire Premier and Silverlakes Sports.

They began with a 4-1 win over the host team and followed that up with a victory by the same scoreline over Mexican outfit Tijuana. Two more wins over LA Galaxy (1-0) and Crossfire (4-1) ensured the trophy returned to its place in the German capital.

The inaugural edition of the tournament was held last year, having been co-founded by former Bayern Munich, Stuttgart and Germany striker Klinsmann with a view to challenging young players through international competition and developing them as people.

"The most exciting part for us is that they live all together in a university dorm and share the facilities with the other teams," said Klinsmann last year. "It opens their eyes. We hope that when they fly back home they say, 'wow, this was really amazing.'"
