The 2024/25 Bundesliga season ends in defeat for St. Pauli, but they won't be concerned as their place in the Bundesliga is secured for next season. Just off target

A great cross comes in from the left touchline, finding Bero's head in the middle. The midfielder gets up very well to meet the ball, but his effort is millimetres wide of the far post.
84'

Welcome to the Bundesliga!

Medić is replaced by 17-year-old Koscierski, who is handed his first senior appearance for Bochum by Dieter Hecking late on here.

Boadu celebrates again

Bochum's Dutch forward had a very productive afternoon in front of goal, bagging a brace before being substituted off in the 76th minute.
80'

Why not?

Losilla pops up in space outside the Pauli box and opts to shoot from distance. It has to travel through a lot of bodies and isn't too far away, flying narrowly wide of the left post.
78'

Both managers go to the bench as four substitutions are made. It's job done for Boadu today, who may have led Bochum to a final day flourish.

Still no breakthrough for the hosts

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
At this point, St. Pauli are worth a goal but are still yet to find a way past Horn. By contrast, Bochum - and Boadu in particular - have been supremely clinical when they've had their chances.

Boadu at the double!

Bochum's No. 9 rounds off a clinical counter-attack to double his side's advantage. From the edge of Bochum's box, it's played out to Passlack, who drives up the right flank in acres of space before slowing down, keeping his composure and finding Boadu in the middle, who strokes it coolly past Vasilj from 12 yards out.

Double change

Alexander Blessin makes a double alteration as his side continue to chase this one goal deficit. Dźwigała and Eggestein come in for Saliakas and Sinani.
62'

Wouldn't have counted

Bochum win it back high up the pitch and Losilla instantly slips it through for Boadu. He beats his marker before curling an effort goalwards from inside the box, forcing a fantastic save from Vasilj. However, had it gone in it wouldn't have stood as the assistant had their flag raised.
59'

Long throw-in

Saliakas launches it into the Bochum box from the right. The initial ball is headed clear but drops for Sinani on the edge of the box. The forward goes for a speculative effort, which is on target but never looks like troubling Horn.
57'

Sissoko replaced

As expected, the midfielder is unable to continue after over-extending his right hamstring. He is replaced by club captain and Bochum legend Losilla, who comes on for his final appearance as a professional footballer ahead of joining Dieter Hecking's coaching staff at the end of the season.
56'

Sissoko down

The Bochum man stays on the turf, rubbing his right hamstring. This doesn't look good for the midfielder.
55'

Tempers flare

There's a bit of afters between Wittek and Wahl following a challenge, but the referee steps in to intervene quickly before it escalates.
52'

Corner conceded

A teasing ball in from Smith is headed behind by Passlack for another Pauli corner. It's taken short, to the edge of the box before being threaded through to Sinani at the byline, but the ball deflects off the striker and behind for a goal-kick.
50'

Dangerous cross

Weißhaupt instantly looks to threaten the Bochum defence. He drives down the left flank and fizzes a low cross into the middle, but Bernardo clears it away at full stretch.
48'

Guilavogui in behind

The winger is sent in behind the Bochum backline down the right flank, but his attempted cross is blocked behind by Medić. The hosts can't make their set-piece count, however.
46'

Back underway!

Bochum get the ball rolling again here at the Millerntor-Stadion for their final 45 minutes of Bundesliga football this season. Blessin makes one change at half-time, bringing on Weißhaupt for Afolayan.
Kick-off!

Half-time: Pauli 0-1 Bochum

It's already-relegated Bochum who go in at the break in the lead. The Ruhr club were given the lead thanks to an excellent solo effort from Boadu and have looked relatively comfortable since, with Pauli struggling to create chances. However, with Hoffenheim and Heidenheim behind elsewhere, the Kiezkickers won't feel their position in the league is particularly under threat.

Lively Afolayan

The Englishman has been one of Pauli's more industrious players this half.

In from Sinani

The striker takes it again, this time an out-swinger from the left, and this time Horn manages to claim it.
38'

Corner for Pauli

Sinani swings in a really dangerous corner from the right which is right on top of Horn. The Bochum keeper manages to scramble it away but only for another corner for the hosts.
33'

Van der Heyden unable to continue

Following a challenge from Passlack, Van der Heyden stayed down seemingly with a head injury. After a lengthy stoppage to allow the defender to be treated, he is deemed unable to stay on and is replaced by Ritzka. It's not the farewell the loanee would've wanted, but he is applauded off emphatically by the Kiezkicker fans.

The ball bounces around the edge of the Bochum penalty area before Afolayan opts to hit a snapshot. It's a powerful low shot towards the bottom left corner, but Horn is equal to it to make the stop.

Free-kick

Guilavogui wins the set-piece by the right touchline for St. Pauli after being brought down following a nutmeg on Wittek. Smith swings it in, but Bochum get it clear.

Boadu celebrates

Bochum's forward crashed what was supposed to be a St. Pauli party this afternoon with a fantastic solo goal.

What a chance!

Horn misplaces a pass at the back for Bochum, giving it straight to Afolayan. The goalkeeper is off his line and the Englishman immediately hits it from distance, but he rushes the shot and sends it well over the bar.
21'

Straight at Horn

Afolayan wins a free-kick down the left for the hosts. Treu takes, whipping in a really dangerous ball and finding the head of Guilavogui on the edge of the six-yard box, but the winger's header is smothered by Horn.
18'

Pannewig forces the save

Masouras cuts it back to the midfielder from the left side of the Pauli box. Pannewig curls one towards the far post, forcing Vasilj to get down to his left to make a great stop, conceding a corner in the process. Wittek takes the subsequent set-piece, but nothing comes of it for Bochum.

Tails up

Since the goal, Bochum have been playing confidently. A well-worked move sees Sissoko slide it left to Wittek on the edge of the Pauli box. The wing-back hits a right-footed shot, but it's not powerful enough to trouble Vasilj, who smothers it at his near post.
11'

What a goal! Boadu opens the scoring

They may already be down, but they're not going down without a fight. Boadu receives the ball on the left of the Pauli box and opts to go at it alone, dribbling past two Pauli defenders before nutmegging Wahl and slotting it past Vasilj. A moment of individual brilliance from Boadu.

Creeping in?

Passlack runs at the Pauli defence with real intent down the right flank. The expectation is that he'll cross it, but he tries to catch Vasilj out at his near post. The goalkeeper is alert to the danger however, sending it behind for a corner, which Bochum don't manage to capitalise upon.
8'

Another corner

Afolayan has a shot and a cross blocked down the left channel, which goes behind for a corner. The out-swinger comes in and Guilavogui gets his head to it but it flies over the bar.
7'

Misplaced

Afolayan chests the ball down excellently before looking to release Guilavogui in behind, but his attempted pass is straight to the feet of a Bochum defender.
5'

Corner

Afolayan wins it down the left under pressure from Oermann. It's swung in from the left and Wahl gets his head to it, flicking it goalwards, but it's just wide.
4'

High foot

A chance opens up for Bochum. Boadu is judged to have lifted his boot too high in a 50/50 challenge with Van der Heyden, and the referee blows for a foul before a shooting opportunity materialises for the visitors.

And we're off!

The final 90 minutes of the Bundesliga season is underway here at the Millerntor-Stadion. Hosts St. Pauli get the ball rolling.
Kick-off!

A Hamburg swansong?

Van der Heyden, who returns to Pauli's starting XI today after serving a suspension, may be playing his final game at the Millerntor-Stadion, as his loan from Spanish side Mallorca is set to expire at the end of the season.

St. Pauli team news

Likewise for Die Kiezkicker, two changes are made by Alexander Blessin after his side's 2-2 draw away at Frankfurt on Matchday 33. After his absence last week, Vasilj returns in goal, meaning Voll drops to the bench, whilst Van der Heyden starts in place of Ritzka.

Bochum team news

For their final line-up of the Bundesliga campaign, Dieter Hecking names two changes to his side that were relegated by Mainz last time out. Medić and Pannewig return to the starting XI, replacing Ordets and Krauß, who both miss out due to injury.

Party time!

St. Pauli will be holding a season's end celebration after the match, with free drinks and DJ sets for the fans who stick around to mark the end of the season. They will also be celebrating the successful founding of a co-operative that has acquired a majority stake in the company that operates the Kiezkicker's home ground - the Millerntor Stadium.

The last step

St. Pauli sit on the verge of confirming their place in next season's Bundesliga, with what has been a brilliant debut campaign for Alexander Blessin's men. With only 39 goals conceded going into today, they have proven difficult to beat all season long, and will hope to maintain that in today's final game. Bochum will be playing in the Bundesliga 2 next season, but fought valiantly to maintain their Bundesliga status. A huge improvement under Dieter Hecking, which saw them beat the likes of Bayern and Dortmund, wasn't enough however, and they'll finish the season bottom of the pile.
camera-photo

Alexander Blessin on facing Bochum

"It's hard to predict how they'll approach it. They're under no pressure at all and can play with freedom. That can be dangerous, so we'll have to be careful."
camera-photo

Dieter Hecking on facing St. Pauli

"We want to give it our all again and play a good game. The players have the chance to leave the Bundesliga with their heads held high. Mats Pannewig, for example, will be given the opportunity to play from the start."

Goals in short supply

The two lowest-scoring teams of the Bundesliga season so far are to face one another, with St. Pauli's 28 goals bettered by Bochum's 31. St. Pauli have failed to score in ten of their 16 home matches this season.

Bad season for Bochum

With just 22 points to their name, Bochum are sure to register their poorest Bundesliga season ever, with their previous low being 27 points.

Party like it's 1996

St. Pauli are very well placed to ensure their safety against Bochum, which would mark their first successful Bundesliga survival bid since 1995/96.

Final-day permutations

Pauli will guarantee their place in next season's Bundesliga with at least a point. Only a huge defeat and big Heidenheim win over Bremen has the power to drag them into the play-off. There are currently 13 goals between the pair (-11 vs. -24). Bochum, meanwhile, are set to finish bottom no matter what.
