camera-photo

Full-time: Leverkusen 2-4 Dortmund

It's not the fairytale farewell from the BayArena that Alonso or Tah would've wanted. The hosts started incredibly strongly, taking the lead through Frimpong and could've found themselves further ahead had it not been for Kobel's goalkeeping heroics. But Dortmund were clinical, hitting back, counter-attacking ruthlessly and taking their chances when they came. Adeyemi's second half goal all but ended the competition, before Guirassy added a fourth as Dortmund keep their dreams of UEFA Champions League qualification alive.

A deep cross from the right finds a good run of Schick in behind the Dortmund backline. The Czecia international coolly slots it past Kobel into the bottom right corner, but the assistant had his flag raised for offside.

Guirassy gets in on the act!

Dortmund sense blood here and are making a statement about their desire for Champions League football next season. The high press pays off again as Can wins the ball back from Xhaka. Huge chance for Tapsoba

Leverkusen have another corner. It's taken short to Grimaldo, who drills in a dangerous cross towards the far post. Tapsoba gets free in the six-yard box, but his touch isn't quite enough to steer it on target. That was a massive chance for the defender to level it...

Miscontrolled

Wirtz sprays a quarter-back-like pass to Hofmann down the right flank to launch a counter-attack for Leverkusen. It's a promising opportunity, but the substitute cannot bring it down properly, and the ball gets caught under his feet before he can cross in towards Schick, who was in acres of space in the middle.

Adeyemi!

What a chance for the winger. Svensson makes a great run on the ball from midfield through the heart of the Leverkusen team. He spots Adeyemi arriving at the far post and plays a great ball into his path. All he needed was a touch, but even at full stretch, Adeyemi couldn't quite reach the cross to steer it goalwards.
53'

End-to-end

The game is picking up speed. Frimpong's cross from the byline to Adli at the front post is a good one, but the Moroccan international's flick is well saved by Kobel. Dortmund immediately go up the other end, but Brandt's cross from a good position is blocked.
50'

Little space afforded

Dortmund have come out very defensively compact after the restart. Leverkusen are knocking it around confidently in front of them in the attacking third, but they can't quite find the incisive pass. Most recently, Andrich tried to chip it through for Frimpong, but the Dutchman wasn't on the same wavelength as the midfielder.

But Brandt found a near-instant reponse minutes later before Ryerson gave the visitors the lead before half-time. Kobel has been inspired form in between the sticks for BVB, who, despite having an xG of 0.66 to Leverkusen's 1.86, have their noses in front.

It has to be said that it's been coming. An Adli cross is headed away by Dortmund, but only as far as Frimpong. Kane's closest rivals in a direct duel

Leverkusen's Patrik Schick and Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy have each scored 19 goals in this Bundesliga season, with only Harry Kane finding the net more often (24 times). However, the Englishman from Bayern scored nine of his 24 goals from the penalty spot, so if you take those away, Schick and Guirassy have been more successful than Kane (15 goals from open play) – Schick has not had a single penalty kick this Bundesliga season, while Guirassy has scored only two of his 19 goals from the spot.

Blemishes

Leverkusen have scored four own-goals in this Bundesliga season (no other team has scored as many, and Bayer have never scored more in a Bundesliga season), while Dortmund have been shown six red cards (no other team received as many, and BVB only received more in 1999/2000, with seven).
