Full time: Wolfsburg 2-3 Leipzig

After Leipzig dominated most of the first half and took a 2-0 lead into the break, the game looked to be over when Xavi scored his second to make it 3-0 early in the second half. However, Wolfsburg refused to give in and fought back brilliantly, with goals from Fischer and Skov Olsen setting up a nail-biting finale. Ultimately they were unable to find an equaliser though, and Leipzig take all three points to keep them on course for a top-four finish.

Wolfsburg struggle to clear a corner and as Leipzig recycle possession, Baumgartner is once again played through. He fierce close-range shot is well saved by Grabara though.

Baumgartner again!

Poulsen slips in the Austrian this time and it's a better angle for a shot but he drags it wide of the far post. That could have put the game to bed for Leipzig.

Rare fumble from Xavi

Following a Wolfsburg corner, Leipzig break forward at pace. Šeško races half the length of the pitch and pokes the ball forward to Xavi, the visitors now three-on-two. Xavi has Openda to his right and Šeško to his left but his attempted pass to the former is too slow and behind him, allowing Wolfsburg to recover and clear the danger.

This one counts!

Xavi doubles Leipzig lead with a fine goal. Arnold slips and loses the ball in midfield and Leipzig punish him ruthlessly. Vermeeren drives forward in a central position before slipping a pass to his left for Xavi. The Dutchman jinks inside past a couple of challenges and rifles a low shot into the corner.

More on those teams

Leipzig have made two enforced changes following last week's 3-1 win over Hoffenheim, with both Raum and Orbán absent from the squad due to muscular complaints. Klostermann replaces the former at left-back, with Bitshiabu slotting into central defence for Orbán. Wolfsburg have likewise made two changes following last week's 1-0 loss at Union Berlin. Dardai comes in for Vranckx in central midfield, while Mæhle drops to the bench for Vavro.

Zsolt Lőw on facing Wolfsburg

"According to statistics, Wolfsburg should be two or three places higher in the table. They clearly play like a Ralph Hasenhüttl team and that makes them a tough side to face away from home. We need to play well if we want to win the game. I'm expecting our players to take the game by the scruff of the neck and not just react. Our players should give their absolute all. We don't have any more midweek games this season and can fully focus on every single Bundesliga fixture. I want to see a compact side on the pitch, one that wants to actively take control of the game.

Ralph Hasenhüttl on facing Leipzig

"We’re playing on Friday evening against a very good opponent who is coming here with a new coach, who I know very well, and one that shows me just how old I am and how long I've been in the business, that my former assistant is now managing our next opponents. I'm really looking forward to facing off against Zsolt because I still have a very good relationship with him."
