Full-time: Stuttgart 1-2 Werder

Away-day specialists Bremen and their striker Oliver Burke have snatched a victory that sees Stuttgart lose at home for a fifth-consecutive time in the Bundesliga in an unwanted first for the hosts. VfB took the lead through Leonidas Stergiou before Burke brought the teams level in an entertaining first half. Nick Woltemade's second yellow swung the pendulum in the Green-Whites' favour after the break, with Burke netting at the last to give Ole Werner's team the points.

Woltemade ordered off

Well, well, well, Nick Woltemade has been sent off for a second bookable offence against his former side. A challenge on Schmid sees the Werder man drop to the floor and the referee whips out a yellow, and then a red. Woltemade is crestfallen.

Almost Woltemade!

Führich does brilliantly to curl the ball into the box and when Woltemade rises, this looks in all the way. The forward's header fizzes just wide of the upright, however. Woltemade should really score there.

Finding form?

Bremen's win over Frankfurt last week marked the first time they have clinched back-to-back wins since the winter break. What's more, they even managed to keep a clean sheet in both games (3-0 in Kiel, 2-0 at home against Frankfurt).
camera-photo

Only on a Sunday

Werder Bremen may well like away days, but recently they have developed a problem with Sundays. Which is to say that they have lost their last four matches played on this day of the week, shipping 13 goals while scoring just four. Their last Sunday fixture came on Matchday 22, when they lost 3-1 at home to Hoffenheim.

An end to the run?

For all of their highs in recent weeks with reaching the DFB Cup final and thrashing Bochum 4-0, Stuttgart are currently on a run of four consecutive home defeats in the Bundesliga. The Swabians have never lost five on the trot, but Bremen are a force away from home this season.
camera-photo

Werner's thoughts on facing Stuttgart

"I'm looking forward to it - a big stadium, a great atmosphere, two teams who want to get on the ball. It's a big challenge because Stuttgart are a team that brings a lot of quality onto the pitch, both as individuals and as a team, but we want to try and replicate the reverse fixture in terms of approach and quality, because we were able to create an even game then. That's our thinking, even if we know it's a difficult challenge."
camera-photo

Hoeneß' thoughts on facing Bremen

“Bremen are strong away from home and are more experienced than us. They have really impressive and steady patterns in their play. With our positive mood as the basis, we have to be ready to go to our limit and remain focused, even in difficult periods of the game. It remains our task to be a constant goal threat and to attack with purpose.”

Bremen end winless home run

Bremen's win against Frankfurt was their first home win since a 1-0 win against Mainz at the end of January but it is their away form that has given them an outside chance of securing European football next season. Although they only sit in tenth, after back-to-back wins, Bremen only sit five points behind Gladbach in the final European position and a win against Stuttgart would put them right amongst it.
camera-photo

Stuttgart to hit form at the right time?

Although this season hasn't lived up to the fantastic results of last season, Stuttgart could still be on track to end the season in a really positive way. Despite a poor run of form for much of 2025, there was a real change in the mood around the club after the DFB Cup semi-final win over Leipzig and that showed as Stuttgart dismantled Bochum last time out. Stuttgart have favourable fixtures to come and so could still certainly be playing in Europe again next season either via the league or through winning the cup!

Form guys

Striker Ermedin Demirović has five goals in Stuttgart's last four games – no Bundesliga player can top that. Bremen's Romano Schmid has also been on fire, scoring three in his side's last four. Who will make the difference here?

Strong on the road

Bremen have been particularly successful away from the Weserstadion this term. Seven of their 11 victories have come on their travels, as well as 23 of their 39 points. Their last away match was a comfortable 3-0 victory over Holstein Kiel.

112th meeting

Only against Bayern have Stuttgart played more often in the Bundesliga, while a goal against the Werderaner here would be their 100th at home against them in the top flight.
