Full-time: Bremen 2-4 Gladbach

A stunning solo performance from Pléa proved the difference on a day of high drama. The Frenchman scored a hat-trick and laid on a fourth to help Gladbach to three points and keep them in the hunt for European qualification. Bremen fought back from 2-0 down to go in level at the break, but couldn’t maintain their momentum in the second half. A cracker of a game.

Kleindienst killer!

Surely that puts the game to bed now? Gladbach work the ball forward to Pléa on the left, just outside the area. The Frenchman sends an inswinger towards the far post and Kleindienst gets between defender and goalkeeper before poking it into the net. A proper poacher's finish for his 15th of the campaign.

Just one minute 44 seconds into the second half, the Foals are back on top. It's a lovely move too. Defence plays the ball into Hack, lurking between midfield and attack, and the forward knocks an inch-perfect pass between the Bremen defence into the path of Pléa, who takes a touch and rolls the ball beyond Zetterer.

Half-time: Bremen 2-2 Gladbach

A frankly ridiculous game of football. Gladbach were 2-0 up via a Pléa brace and looked to be cruising their way to three points. Then Bremen woke up and smashed home two goals in the final eight minutes. Schmid with the pick of the bunch to make it 2-1 with a stunning free kick.

Gladbach, camped deep inside their own half, steal the ball and counter. Pléa combines with Ngoumou on the halfway line before the ball is worked down the left flank. Lots to play for

Gladbach change three

Coach Seoane swaps two faces from the side that lost 3-1 at home to Mainz last weekend. Scally and Itakura start in defence in place of Lainer and Freidrich. Pléa comes in for Stöger at no.10.

One change for Bremen

Coach Werner makes just one change to the side that pulled off that surprising victory at Leverkusen last weekend, with Kaboré coming in for the sidelined Weiser on the right of midfield.

Omlin (c) - Scally, Itakura, Elvedi, Ullrich - Sander, Weigl - Ngoumou, Pléa, Hack – Kleindienst

Ole Werner's view on Gladbach

"They are able to pose a threat on goal in a number of different ways. Regardless of whether it's through long balls to Tim Kleindienst, or by working their way up the pitch, they have been able to strengthen themselves in these specific areas and have stood out this season as a result."
camera-photo

Gerardo Seoane's view on Werder

"Werder have a lot of different facets to their style of play. They look to find solutions on the ball, but are also capable of using long balls to get the ball up the pitch. They often look to stretch the pitch when in possession. We need to be able to remain as compact as possible as well as putting them under pressure when they do have the ball."

On the Reitz track

Rocco Reitz has also returned to training for Gladbach, alongside Franck Honorat. Reitz had been out with a toe injury, while Honorat had a hairline fracture in his foot.

Almost at full strength

Werder Bremen may have a fully fit squad for the clash with Gladbach. Marco Friedl, Niklas Stark and Marvin Ducksch have all returned to training.
