Full-time: Leipzig 2-0 Dortmund

What a second half! Openda's sumptuous volley doubled Leipzig's first-half advantage minutes after the restart, but the goal instantly lifted Dortmund, who went hell-for-leather to find a response. Striking the woodwork three times and forcing countless saves out of Péter Gulácsi, it just wasn't to be for BVB in the end, who finish the game without a goal, but with an xG of nearly three. Credit to Leipzig's defence too, as they made life difficult for Dortmund and held firm, having to endure serious pressure for almost the entirety of the second half.

Half-time: Leipzig 1-0 Dortmund

It's advantage Leipzig as both sides head in at the break. Xavi's precision 18th minute finish broke the deadlock but Leipizg may feel they should have more, having firmly struck the crossbar twice. David Raum has run riot down the left, causing all sorts of problems in tandem with Openda and Šeško too. Adeyemi nearly found an equaliser at the end of the half, but Dortmund will need to shut down Leipzig's goal threat and be tidier in possession if they're to get back into this one.

More on those teams

Leipzig are showing two changes to the side that began the goalless draw against Freiburg last time out. In place of Arthur Vermeeren and Kevin Kampl (both benched), Nicolas Seiwald and the fit-again Christoph Baumgartner come in. Visiting coach Niko Kovač, meanwhile, names the same starting XI twice running for the first time since he took charge at BVB. After the midweek success in the Champions League Round of 16 against Lille, Dortmund go again.

Leipzig starting XI

Gulácsi - Geertruida, Orbán (c), Bitshiabu - Baku, Baumgartner, Seiwald, Xavi, Raum - Šeško, Openda

Leipzig subs

Vandevoordt, Lukeba, Klostermann, Nedeljković, Kampl, Vermeeren, Haidara, Xaver, Gomis

Dortmund starting XI

Kobel - Anton, Can (c), Schlotterbeck, Ryerson - Sabitzer, Groß - Adeyemi, Brandt, Beier – Guirassy

Dortmund subs

Meyer, Bensebaini, Süle, Yan Couto, Özcan, Chukwuemeka, Reyna, Gittens, Duranville

Marco Rose's view on BVB

"They're a team with attacking power, however, they also seem vulnerable to certain situations. We ourselves have the quality to cause them problems. With our fans behind us, a good week of training, and the training camp in Salzburg, which kind of kicked-off the final phase [of the season], we obviously want to win and gain the points."
camera-photo

Niko Kovač's view on Leipzig

"Leipzig have a strong team [and] they didn't play during the week. We want to challenge our opponents with and without the ball. It's all about our strengths [on Saturday]. I want to see readiness, a sense of togetherness. That's everything that distinguished us in [the Champions League win in] Lille."

In contention

Leipzig sit in sixth place currently, just two points of fourth, but just one point ahead of Wolfsburg. They have won just one of their last six games, drawing four and losing the other. They'll have to get back to winning ways quickly if they're to maintain their grip on European football for next season.

Inconsistency remains

Dortmund's last six games have seen them lose three and win three, meaning they remain in 10th place. Their most recent fixture with Augsburg ended in a 1-0 defeat, and they'll be desperate to get back on track and climbing towards the European places.
