Toppmöller - "We had everything under control"

camera-photo

Full-time: Heidenheim 0-4 Frankfurt

There wasn't a huge gap between the two sides at the half-time break despite Frankfurt's one goal lead. The visitors took their game to another level in the second-half however, and Heidenheim simply couldn't keep pace.

Another one!

It's the final nail in the coffin. A turnover sets Knauff free down the right, who crosses for Ekitiké to tap into an empty net.

Defeat edges closer

As the clock winds down, defeat is all but confirmed. It's been another disappointing game for the hosts and their winless run continues.

Huge chance!

Marmoush once again finds himself one-on-one with Müller, but this time he can't find the back of the net, instead hitting the 'keeper and winning a corner.

Chance for Höjlund!

The man who has just come on almost made it four. A pass between Heidenheim legs finds him with space inside the area, but his powerful effort is straight at the 'keeper.

A whisker away!

Schimmer's first time effort from the edge of the box toward the far bottom corner spins just past the post. It's the closest Heidenheim have come to a goal for a long time.

Horror start

Having grown into the first-half and looked capable of causing problems, Heidenheim have not started the second-half in the same vein. Conceding early on will be difficult to recover from.

The substitute scores!

Brown makes progress down the right after the hosts lose the ball before firing in a low cross; Mainka gets a toe to it, but can only divert the ball to Chaïbi who sweeps it home from just inside the area.

Half-time: Heidenheim 0-1 Frankfurt

It's been an end-to-end half, without too many chances of note for either side. Frankfurt took one of their few chances having initially been slow to get going, but the clinical Marmoush came to the rescue to get them up and running. Heidenheim have been in the game, but are just lacking that cutting edge in the final third.

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
The xG figures represent what has been a closely contested game so far.

Wake up call

A couple of dangerous balls into the box that need clearing from the Frankfurt backline should provide the necessary wake up call for the visitors, who have looked sluggish in these opening stages.

Can Heidenheim end the rut?

Not only are Heidenheim winless in their last six, they also lost both of their league fixtures against Frankfurt last season. In their home fixture, they lost 2-0 to today's visitors, with Hugo Larsson and Ansgar Knauff scoring the goals.

Plenty at stake

This evening's game represents an opportunity for both sides. Frankfurt can strengthen their grip on second place and edge closer to Bayern, while Heidenheim can pull out of the bottom three and end a run of six games without a win.

More on those teams

With both of these sides in the thick of busy European campaigns, changes abound for Heidenhem and Eintracht here. Mikkel Kaufmann and Marnon Busch making rare starts are among the switches for the hosts while Rasmus Kristensen returns for Eintracht, who also have Igor Matanović playing alongside Omar Marmoush up front. Hugo Ekitiké drops to the bench for the first time since last April for the Eagles.

Frank Schmidt on Frankfurt

"Marmoush and Ekitiké work well together and can get things going quickly when given space. It was Götze who got the decisive goal last time out in Bremen, but the key ball came from the strikers. They're also variable in their build-up play, with Tuta sometimes in central defence, then in midfield. You need to give Dino and the entire club great credit. We need a top performance again to get a result."
camera-photo

Dino Toppmöller on Heidenheim

"Huge respect for them, not just from me but the whole of German football. Their journey is impressive. Frank Schmidt has a super manner, is authentic. They won't sit back just because they've got to play Chelsea. They had a great start to the season but are now paying a bit for all their midweek games. That's normal, they're not used to it. They'll achieve their goals."

Watch: Heidenheim 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt - previous meeting

Frankfurt edged the last meeting of the sides in March.

One way to stop them

Frankfurt's Omar Marmoush is the most-fouled player in the Bundesliga this season (37), followed in second place by Heidenheim's Leo Scienza (34).

Set-piece specialists

Omar Marmoush's threat from free-kicks has been well documented, and Frankfurt boast more goals from set pieces this season, seven, than any other Bundesliga club asides from Bayern Munich (eight).

Heidenheim hunting upturn in form

Following the loss in Leverkusen, Heidenheim are without a win in six Bundesliga matches and have suffered three successive defeats. They do have just as many points after 11 matches as this stage last season, however (ten).
