Full-time: Union Berlin 0-0 Freiburg

A fair draw in a tight encounter despite Grifo's first-half penalty miss and a few decent chances for both teams in the second period. Lucas Höler's late effort was the best of the bunch, but both defences deserved a clean sheet in this one!

No sign of a breakthrough

After a couple of chances at the Freiburg end, both sides have been passing the ball around carefully in the last while. Danilho Doekhi sends a testing cross in that is clear - it might take something special for either side to win this.

Freiburg in front on xG

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
A big part of that is probably due to the first-half penalty - which was missed, and it remains goalless.

Watch: Ritsu Dōan nominated for October Player of the Month

Here's why!

Two changes for Union

The Berlin club have brought in two fresh faces following last week's 3-0 defeat in Munich. Vertessen comes in for Jordan up top, while Skov takes Querfeld's place on the left.

Freiburg unchanged

Coach Schuster has stuck with the same 11 players that began last week's 0-0 draw against Mainz. There is plenty of attacking firepower on the bench should the Black Forest club struggle to find the net again, with Gregoritsch, Philipp and Höler all waiting in the wings.

Union starting XI

Svensson on Freiburg

"[Under Schuster] They are a bit more dynamic and straightforward, and they have solutions in all phases of the game. However, they have also maintained the strength of set pieces, for example. Either way, they have acore of players who have been playing there for a long time and identify with the club."

Schuster on Union

"They are a real tight-knit unit. Last season was a difficult one for them, but they’re now back to how I’ve always known them. They defend with passion and their results reflect that. They keep things tight – creating chances against them is hard.”
