PROOF IS IN THE XG

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
And if you don't believe us, then take a look at xG for the proof.

NO ADDED TIME

Right on cue, the referee blows the final whistle and puts Leipzig out of their misery. It was indeed a miserable evening for the guests, but a fully deserved win for Frankfurt.

Almost a fifth for Frankfurt, with Borre testing Gulacsi from much closer range than the penalty spot this time.

FRUSTRATION FOR WERNER

Timo Werner will have to wait a little longer before bagging his 100th goal for Leipzig, as Andre Silva takes his place.

TUTA TAP-IN

Tuta's goal had a goal probability of 96.98%, No wonder be buried it. It was the fourth 'easiest', or at least most probable goal, of the current Bundesliga season.

GOAL COMING?

Götze has had three shots and Gulacsi has neutralised them so far, but could the German yet get a goal today? He's certainly trying.

THREE DESERVED POINTS

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Expected Goals is also on Frankfurt's side, almost reflecting their actual return of three goals, and if that does equate to three points - as seems likely right now - then they would be fully deserved.

TUTA ON HAND!

That could well be that! Tuta is in the right place at the right time to turn the loose ball in after Gulacsi can only parry Götze's shot. Excellent move by Götze zo make room for the shot and then drive the ball in from a well-worked corner routine.... but VAR is checking it,

CRUCIAL BLOCK!

Another big chance for Frankfurt and the danger is averted by a block, this time from Kamada's low shot.

GULACSI TO THE RESCUE

That could have been that for Leipzig, but Gulacsi keeps them in it with a fine reflex save from Mario Götze.

Almost a third for Frankfurt, and it is that man Kolo Muani whose header tests Gulacsi. He's having a great game, and a great season too.

FRANKFURT LEAD AT THE BREAK

Happy hosts in Frankfurt, with the Eagles flying at the halfway stage of this game, and it cannot be claimed that they do not deserve it. They had one goal disallowed due to offside, while Leipzig have really struggled to put many passes together and look surprisingly off colour today.

RODE HIS LUCK

HITTING THE GROUND RUNNING

Randal Kolo Muani, who set up both goals today, has now been involved in 6 goals in his 5 games (2 goals, 4 assists) - league-wide only Union's Sheraldo Becker has been involved in more. What a signing he is proving to be.

FOREVER FRANKFURT

Much to the joy and relief of Eintracht Frankfurt’s vast following, goalkeeper Kevin Trapp committed his future to the club in the face of a tempting offer from English Premier League heavyweights Manchester United. An affirmation of his belief that the 2022 UEFA Europa League winners are on an ongoing upward curve, simultaneously underscoring Trapp’s deep and enduring personal attachment to the club.

200 FOR GULACSI

At the other end of the pitch to Werner, Gulacsi will make his 200th Bundesliga appearance this evening.

SIX CHANGES

Compared to the cup match against Teutonia Ottensen, Domenico Tedesco has made six changes. Gulacsi is back in goal in place of Blaswich, and Henrichs, Kampl, Laimer, Olmo and Nkunku replace Haidara, Schlager, Forsberg, Szoboszlai and Silva in the starting eleven.

WERNER EYES A CENTURY

Timo Werner moved to within one of a century of Leipzig strikes with a first-half hat-trick in the cup in midweek, and he's in the starting XI today. Can he bring a ton up?

PELLEGRINI OUT

Oliver Glasner sticks with a four-man defence, but there's an enforced change at left-back with Christopher Lenz in for Luca Pellegrini.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CALLING

Frankfurt begin their maiden UEFA Champions League group campaign next week. The Europa League winners will go up against Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday. Leipzig face Shahktar Donetsk, ahead of a mouth-watering Bundesliga showdown with Borussia Dortmund.

PERSONNEL LATEST

One of six changes from the Wolfsburg game, Werner did his chances of starting against Frankfurt no harm at all with his three-goal salvo in the cup. Joining the goal-scoring party as second-half substitutes, Christopher Nkunku and Dani Olmo should come back in, while goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi is available again after three games on the sidelines. As for Frankfurt, Kristijan Jakic is set to continue at right-back, and Randal Kolo Muani as the lone striker at the expense of Rafael Borre.

LAST-MINUTE DEALS

Coveted Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol penned a contract extension on transfer deadline day. The Croatia international has put pen to paper on a deal through to summer 2027. Leipzig also bolstered their ranks with the loan signing of Paris Saint-Germain defender Abdou Diallo, who made a name for himself at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.

TEDESCO OPTIMISTIC

"We’ve never won away at Eintracht Frankfurt. It’s not going to be easy for us – Eintracht did not win the Europa League for nothing. They have shown that they can be dangerous against any opponent – they won in Barcelona, which speaks volumes. But we're in fine fettle, and I'm optimistic we can get a first away win of the season."

GLASNER WARY OF IMPROVING LEIPZIG

"Leipzig didn’t start the season how people expected, but it looks like they’ve turned a corner with the home win over Wolfsburg and dominant DFB Cup win. They have a lot of pace, players who combine well and pace out wide. They’re really flexible, and have an unbelievable squad with players like Christopher Nkunku, Timo Werner and Dani Olmo. We need to be on top of our game to get a win."

WERNER HAT-TRICK

Leipzig thrashed fourth-tier Teutonia Ottensen 8-0 in their rescheduled DFB Cup first-round tie on Tuesday. Werner scored a first-half hat-trick to move to within one of his 100th competitive goal for Die Roten Bullen.

FIVE POINTS APIECE

Frankfurt and Leipzig are level on five points after four matches. Eintracht lost to Bayern, before drawing with Hertha and Colgone, and breaking their duck in Bremen. Prior to beating Wolfsburg, Leipzig had been held by Stuttgart and Cologne, and defeated by Union.
