Coach’s view: Union

Urs Fischer: "If you haven't lost [at home] for 22 games, then playing at home certainly helps you, the crowd helps you. Our fans help us, especially in periods when it's difficult, when you're suffering, it's what drives you forward. This season will be a success for us. Nobody can say otherwise. I think it’s been an extraordinary season from us. But we’ve now got the chance to take that big step. And it’s in our own hands."

Coach’s view: Bremen

Ole Werner: "We're facing a side that has experience in Europe and is rightly playing to qualify for Champions League. Union will do everything they can to maintain their position, but we also have a clear goal of winning. I'm glad that we secured our place in the league last weekend and that it doesn't come down to the last matchday. We're looking forward to the game and want to finish the season well."

Watch: Decision Day at Both Ends

The title, Europe, relegation – there’s still so much left to be decided at both ends of the table on the final day of the Bundesliga season.

Union Berlin: personnel

Urs Fischer has virtually nothing to worry about personnel-wise with the Champions League dream beckoning. Andras Schäfer was the only man confirmed out by midweek. Key defender Robin Knoche (pictured) is all set to return after missing last week's defeat in Hoffenheim with an illness.

Union Berlin: form

It's a mixed bag for the Berlin club at the moment. A big 4-2 win against their big rivals for fourth place, Freiburg, was followed with a 4-2 loss at Hoffenheim. They are the only team in the Bundesliga not to have lost at home in 2022/23 yet, however.

Werder Bremen: personnel

Niclas Füllkrug returned from a calf injury to start last weekend and is therefore due to join his trusted strike partner Marvin Ducksch (both pictured) up front as he eyes the top goalscorer honour. Midfielder Jens Stage is suspended, while Mitchell Weiser and Christian Groß miss the final game of the season with injuries picked up last week.

Werder Bremen: form

Bremen have just one win in their past 11 as their impressive first season since promotion has fizzled out a little without endangering their safety. Their 1-1 draw against Cologne was their first game in 11 they had conceded less than two goals.

Union Berlin: probable XI

Watch: Hoffenheim 4-2 Union Berlin – highlights

Union slipped to defeat at Hoffenheim, meaning their Champions League qualification hopes will go down to the wire.

Will Füllkrug hold on?

Niclas Füllkrug still leads the Bundesliga scoring chart with 16 goals – two clear of four players back on 14. He could become the fifth Bremen player to win the Torjägerkanone, after Rudi Völler (23 in 1982/83), Mario Basler (20 in 1994/95), Ailton (28 in 2003/04) and Miroslav Klose (25 in 2005/06).

Werder on the road

Bremen are the only team this season to have picked up more points on the road than at home. Their 19 points in their travels is the ninth best record in the division, but 17 on their own patch is the fewest of all teams.

Bremen also clinical

Werder have scored on average with every seventh shot this season – the best rate of all teams in the Bundesliga.

Clinical Sheraldo

Union’s Sheraldo Becker has scored 11 goals this season, having never before got more than seven in the Bundesliga. He’s the most clinical player in the division, scoring 4.7 goals more than his xG of 6.3 would suggest.

History beckons

Union have been in the top four for 31 out of 33 matchdays this season. They simply have to keep ahead of Freiburg – with goal difference all that’s currently separating them – to make history and qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time ever.

Now a top side

Since Union were promoted in 2019, they’ve earned 207 points from 135 games. That’s the same total as Freiburg, while only Bayern, Dortmund, Leipzig and Leverkusen have picked up more in that time.

Aiming for an unbeaten campaign

Union are the only team yet to lose at home in the Bundesliga this season. It’s 22 games since they lost at the Alte Försterei, which is a club record.
