HEL-LO!

Mainz reduce the arrears with three minutes of normal time remaining. Kobel fluffs his clearance - it's picked off by Mainz and helped on to substitute Jonathan Burkardt, who finishes smartly from inside the box with the outside of his right boot. Squeaky-bum time for BVB...

BIG SAVE!

Boetius takes aim from distance. He connects with it really well, but Kobel gets down to beat it away. The BVB No.1 saw it very late - that's a fine stop.

MAINZ CHANGES

Bo Svensson rolls the dice, with Dortmund threatening to put the result beyond any doubt. All positive changes - will they have the desired effect?
67'

DOUBLE CHANGE

Fresh Dortmund legs as Thorgan Hazard and Marin Pongracic replace Donyell Malen and Mats Hummels. For a moment, it looked like Akanji would be one of the men to make way after he took a blow to the foot.
65'

OFF THE POST

Only the woodwork denies Dortmund a third goal. Hummels meets a Reus corner, glancing a header against Zentner's far post. The keeper didn't move.
62'

LOBS IT!

Onisiwo beats the Dortmund offside trap. He shows a lovely piece of control, but is put off by the advancing Kobel and sends his lobbed effort well over.
55'

HAALAND!

Haaland doubles Dortmund's lead from the spot. It's not the best penalty, but Zentner's already gone to his right and can't get enough on it as the ball sails down the middle. That's Haaland's eighth league goal of the campaign.

PENALTY!

Referee Daniel Schlager takes a good while to review a possible handball against Widmer. He flicked up a hand as Haaland tried to lift the ball round him in the box. The decision is a BVB penalty!

AKANJI TO THE RESCUE

Onisiwo tears clear for Mainz. He goes into the box, but Akanji comes from nowhere with sensational sliding challenge.

CHANCE!

Dortmund move the ball with pace and precision. Haaland slips Meunier in behind, and his cross is deflected just past Zentner's post by Martin.

ADVANTAGE DORTMUND

Marco Reus's goal is the difference at the Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund are good value for their lead, but at 1-0 anything can happen.

DENIED!

Desprately close to a second BVB goal. Malen plays in Haaland, who can't beat Zentner at his near post. He takes on the rebound, but a Mainz player intervenes before the ball can cross the line.

OFF THE LINE!

Danger for Mainz as Reus whips over a free-kick from the BVB left. Zentner doesn't know whether to stay or go, and it's Niakhate with the goal-line clearance. That just needed a touch!
42'

CHANCE WASTED

Mainz make in-roads for the first time. It's three vs. three in the Dortmund box, but Boetius plays the ball behind Onisiwo and the chance is squandered.

STAT ATTACK

Dortmund haven't kept a clean sheet in their last 10 Bundesliga matches, but they are unbeaten in their previous nine on home turf.
34'

SWARMING

Dortmund build with Brandt, but he overcooks his cross and Mainz eventually scramble clear. They don't keep possession for long, though - BVB's pressing is relentless!

CLOSE!

Haaland puts on the after-burners, drawing the Mainz defenders with him. He has the wherewithal to cut a smart ball back to the edge of the box, where Meunier arrives late to side-foot narrowly wide. Zentner probably had it covered.

ONE LOVE

That belter was Reus' second Bundesliga goal of the current campaign, and his 143rd in all competitions for his boyhood club.
8'

HAALAND ON THE PROWL

Mainz very much on the back-foot as Brandt advances and pings a ball into the six-yard box for Haaland. He stoops to head, but the ball just brushes his blonde locks and the chance is gone.
4'

REUS!!!

Dream start for Dortmund. Meunier's right-wing cross is deflected into the path of Marco Reus on the edge of the box. It's by no means an easy take, but he winds up his left foot and arrows an unstoppable effort into the roof of the net. Superb technique. That's his 14th goal in 21 appearances against Mainz!

HERE WE GO!

The Dortmund players applaud the BVB faithful. The Black-Yellows are all fired up. A win would take them top, overnight at least.

OLD FRIENDS

Marco Rose and Bo Svensson were part of the same Mainz team as players, but only played alongside each other in five Bundesliga 2 matches.

WATCH: ERLING HAALAND: THE PHENOMENON

That Haaland's recent injury-enforced absence negatively impacted on the Borussia Dortmund attack will hardly come as a surprise. The 21-year-old Norwegian striker is a scoring phenomenon of the rarest order, with 47 goals in his 48 league outings for the Black-and-Yellows to date. The latest seven of those were netted in the five games he has played this season and when action resumes after the short international break, Haaland hopes to soon be adding further to that tally.
