BIG WIN FOR BAYERN

So Bayern restore their six-point lead at the summit thanks to a comprehensive win over Hertha. Nagelsmann's side were superior from the outset and could have scored many more were it not for the heroics of Schwolow in the Hertha goal.

SANE EFFORT DISALLOWED

Sane puts the ball in the net with an absolute peach from the edge of the area. He's on the right-hand edge of the box and skips past a couple of tackles before curling the ball into the top corner. It won't count though as he is adjudged to have handled the ball in the build-up.

NEW LEAGUE RECORD

Bayern’s tally of 65 goals after 20 rounds of matches is a new Bundesliga best mark. If they keep scoring at this rate they’ll end up with 111 goals this season.

OFF THE LINE FROM GECHTER!

Gnabry lofts the ball over Schwolow and it looks like Bayern's fourth goal of the day... until Gechter sprints back and hooks it off the line!

SANE MAKES IT THREE!

Hertha goalkeeper Schwolow will not want to see this one again, and it's such a shame because he's been absolutely outstanding for Hertha today. The home side try to play the ball out from the back but Schwolow's view is blocked by Lewandowski as he passes out towards Gechter. Sane spies his opening and sprints to intercept and tap into the open goal from close range.

IMPORTANT BLOCK FROM KIMMICH

Belfodil produces a lovely flick with the outside of the boot to find Serdar's run into the box. For a moment he looks to have a clear sight of goal as he shoots towards the far post, but Kimmich tracks back to make a vital block for a corner.

DOUBLE CHANGE FOR BAYERN

Sabitzer and Richards come on for the excellent Tolisso and Coman, while Jovetic makes his comeback from injury for Hertha, replacing Maolida.
66'

SCHWOLOW TO THE RESCUE AGAIN

Müller gets an effort away, with Bayern showing no sign of relenting, but Schwolow makes another fine save to keep out his shot from eight yards.
62'

GNABRY HITS THE SIDE NETTING

Kimmich dinks another clever ball over the Hertha defence, this time finding Gnabry. He chests it down and gets a left-footed shot away, but it's just the wrong side of the post and nestles into the side netting.

KORKUT SHAKING THINGS UP

With just over 30 minutes left to play, Hertha coach Korkut makes a triple substitution, perhaps encouraged by the chance for Serdar moments ago.

LEWY GOAL INBOUND?

COMAN CHANCE!

Bayern get forward in numbers on the counter, with Sane picking out Coman with an outstanding through-ball. The Frenchman has plenty of options to his left and right, but opts to go it alone and is eventually tackled. Needless to say, his teammates aren't best pleased...

SERDAR SURELY?!?!

A brilliant, teasing low cross from Mittelstädt finds the unmarked Serdar arriving on the edge of the six-yard box. He must score, but somehow pokes the ball over with the goal at his mercy!

SANE FROM RANGE!

Sane picks the ball up a long way from goal and strides forward, holding off the challenges of a couple of defenders. He gets to the edge of the Hertha box and unleashes a powerful low drive with his left foot, but it arrows narrowly wide of the post.

MILESTONE MÜLLER GOAL

Müller's effort was the 100th Bayern goal in Nagelsmann's time at the helm so far, coming in his 29th game.

DESERVED LEAD

It's largely been one-way traffic towards the Hertha goal and the scoreline could be even bigger were it not for goalkeeper Schwolow, who's already made eight saves. Strikes from Tolisso and Müller have the defending champions ahead at the break, but Hertha have sporadically shown a threat in the final third and will not be giving up on this one just yet.

TOLISSO AGAIN!

The 27-year-old must have woken up in a good mood today as he is absolutely everywhere. Receiving the ball 30 yards out, he drills a left-footed effort at goal, but it's no trouble for Schwolow.
36'

FINGERTIP SAVE FROM SCHWOLOW!

Gnabry with another outstanding cross, this time from deep on the right to pick out Lewandowski's run. The Pole stretches to reach it, around eight yards from goal, and pokes the ball towards goal but Schwolow gets down to produce a stunning fingertip save!
34'

OVER FROM TOLISSO

This time Gnabry's delivery is superb, bending a ball in from the right towards the back post, where Tolisso is arriving. It's at an awkward height for him though, and he can only attempt to redirect it towards goal with his thigh, only to see it fly well over.
32'

IT OPENS UP FOR GNABRY

The Germany international has time and space as he sprints into the right-hand side of the Hertha box. Müller makes a run towards the front post, but Gnabry opts to try and pull it further back into the middle - only to find a Hertha boot. He holds his head in anguish, aware that was a hugely promising opening.

ROOKIE DEFENCE AGAINST LEWANDOWSKI

Dardai - the son of former Hertha coach Pal Dardai - has never played against Bayern before. The 19-year-old has 19 Bundesliga appearances to his name so far and forms part of a relatively inexperienced rearguard including 17-year-old Gechter, who features in his fifth top-flight game. Indeed, Mittelstädt is the only player in the starting line-up to have beaten Bayern with Hertha, although Pekarik (with Wolfsburg) and Darida (with Freiburg) have also tasted success against the Reds.

GECHTER STARTING DEBUT

Seventeen-year-old Hertha midfielder Linus Gechter is handed his fifth Bundesliga appearance here, but it's his first ever outing in the starting line-up.

FIRST OUTINGS OF THE YEAR

Hernandez and Coman make their first appearances of 2022 for Bayern here, while Sane makes his first start since the turn of the year.

ALL-OUT ATTACK?

Gnabry, Coman and Sane begin a Bundesliga match together for the first time in almost a year. The last time the trio of wingers were all in the starting line-up was in this exact fixture last season: Bayern won 1-0 in Berlin on 5 February 2021 thanks to a goal from Coman. Add into the mix Lewandowski and Müller causing havoc in the final third, and it's hard not to feel a pang of sympathy for the Hertha defence.

HERTHA STARTING XI

Schwolow - Pekarik, Dardai, Boyata (c), Mittelstädt - Gechter, Tousart, Darida, Serdar - Belfodil, Maolida

HERTHA SUBS

Christensen, Bjorkan, Klünter, Plattenhardt, Ekkelenkamp, Ascacibar, Richter, Boateng, Jovetic

BAYERN STARTING XI

Neuer (c) - Kimmich, Pavard, Süle, Hernandez - Tolisso - Gnabry, Müller, Sane, Coman - Lewandowski

BAYERN SUBS

Ulreich, Upamecano, Richards, Nianzou, Wanner, Sabitzer, Roca, Tillman, Musiala

FORM - BAYERN

Julian Nagelsmann's side have been far more accustomed to winning this term, taking maximum points from eight of their last nine matches in all competitions. Hertha can dare to dream, however, as Bayern have already lost three times in the Bundesliga in 2021/22, most recently at the start of January with a home reverse to Gladbach. Augsburg (Matchday 12) and Eintracht Frankfurt (Matchday 7) are the other teams to have beaten the defending champions so far this season.

FORM - HERTHA

The home side have blown more cold than hot this season, and are winless since the turn of the year after losing at home to Cologne on Matchday 18, drawing 0-0 with Wolfsburg last weekend and losing to city rivals Union in the DFB Cup on Wednesday. However, they did beat Dortmund 3-2 at home in their last game of 2021, one of just two victories in the seven competitive games under new coach Tayfun Korkut so far (D2 L3).

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Bayern have won 43 of the 73 Bundesliga encounters between these teams to date, with Hertha taking the spoils on 10 occasions, and 20 draws. It hasn't been as one-sided as you might think in recent years, however, even if Bayern have won each of the last four. Four of the 10 most recent league meetings have ended in draws, while the Old Lady even recorded a 2-0 win at home in September 2018.

WATCH: PREVIOUS MEETING: BAYERN 5-0 HERTHA

The last time these teams met was on Matchday 3, on 28 August 2021. Bayern made light work of their visitors at the Allianz Arena, taking the lead through Thomas Müller in the sixth minute. Robert Lewandowski got the first of his three goals just after the half-hour mark, with Jamal Musiala getting the other early in the second half.

128th GAME FOR REFEREE DANKERT

Bastian Dankert is today's official, and the 41-year-old takes charge of his 128th Bundesliga game. It's the first time he's ever refereed this particular fixture, and also the first time he's officiated a match involving either of these teams this season.

THE STAKES

Bayern will arguably feel affronted at having their lead at the top of the table reduced to a mere three points by Dortmund yesterday, meaning they'll be in no mood for anything but a win. For Hertha, meanwhile, a victory would do wonders for their self-confidence in a relegation battle that is shaping up to include almost all of the teams in the bottom half of the table. Should they triumph here, Hertha would pull six points clear of the drop zone, and seven ahead of the automatic relegation places.
