JOB DONE

Bayern see out the win to go top, ahead of Leipzig's meeting with Gladbach. The visitors weren't at their polished best, but winning in such circumstances is the sign of champions. Cologne's wait for a first league win since March goes on.

GAME ON!

Drexler gets the final touch from Thielmann to set up a grandstand finish! The goal was confirmed following a VAR review, after Alaba played the goalscorer onside. They can't - can they?

NEUER BEATEN

Ooooof! So close for Cologne. Duda hangs up a cross from Jakobs, who glances towards the top corner. Neuer doesn't move as it whistles past the upright. The Cologne bench were on their feet!
69'

ADVENTUROUS

Cologne advance up the left with Katterbach. His deep cross finds the head of Thielmann, who doesn't trouble Neuer. Right idea.
64'

SANE OFF

Leroy Sane has been very quiet by his standards on his return to the starting line-up. Choupo-Moting hasn't fared much better. Let's see what Douglas Costa and Joshua Zirkzee bring to the travelling party...
60'

FRESH LEGS

Markus Gisdol makes three changes with around half-an-hour to play. Two are very attack-minded, with Thielmann slotting in behind Andersson and Drexler taking up a position on the right-hand flank. Katterbach will hope to have more joy than Horn at left-back up against Gnabry.
57'

JAKOBS!

Jakobs collects a long ball in the Bayern box. He shows great determination to go past Pavard, before rifling a shot from a very tight angle into the side netting. He had no option, to be fair, and certainly looks like Cologne's most likely way back into the game.
52'

ALMOST THREE

Gnabry outjumps every player in the Cologne box to meet an inch-perfect cross from the left. His header has the power, but it's just too close to Horn, who swats it away.

GNABRY LATE ON

Bayern double their lead on the stroke of half-time. Kimmich wins the ball in midfield with a tenacious challenge, poking the ball to Choupo-Moting. Kimmich gets it back and finds Gnabry, who strides in off the right and fires low and hard past Horn at his near post. No way back for Cologne, you feel. They needed to score early.

BAYERN CHANCE!

Choupo-Moting glances a header goalwards. It's not convincing from Horn, but Sane can't adjust his feet to apply the finishing touch to the loose ball from close range.

JAKOBS CHANCE

Duda plays a fine ball between Boateng and Süle for Jabos to chase. His first touch isn't the best, though, and he drags an effort which is neither shot nor cross wide. That was a golden opportunity.

NO MISTAKE FROM MÜLLER

Marius Wolf is penalised for handling Serge Gnaby's header in the box. It's not obvious at first viewing, but the replay shows the referee gets the decision spot on. Timo Horn guesses the right way as Thomas Müller steps up, but that's a fine penalty. Against the run of play, Bayern lead!

CHOUPO-MOTING INTO THE BOOK

Choupo-Moting's touch is heavy again. Özcan moves in to profit, and is unceremoniously trodden on for his efforts. Lewandowski's understudy will have to watch his step for the next 80 minutes...
9'

COLOGNE IN CHARGE

Markus Gisdol will be happy with this. His side are controlling the play and moving the ball with real purpose. Hansi Flick looks pensive to say the least.
6'

OFF THE TRAINING GROUND

Cologne win a free-kick to the left of the Bayern area. Duda shapes to bend a cross into the six-yard box, but instead lays the ball off for Jakobs. He hits it first time - but a navy blue shirt gets in the way.
3'

SPACE IN BEHIND

Cologne lose possession midway through their own half, but Choupo-Moting's touch lets him down with unmarked teammates to his right and left. The Billy Goats surge up the other end with Ismail Jakobs, whose inviting cross is picked off by Neuer.
Kick-off!

THE GNABRY FACTOR

Lewandowski's record against Cologne - 12 goals in 14 Bundesliga games - is impressive to say the least, but the returning Gnabry boasts an even better strike rate with six goals in five outings. The Germany international - who struck a brace on his last trip to the RheinEnergieStadion - makes his first Bayern start in a fortnight.

LEW-FAN-FOR-THE-DAY-DOWSKI

Lewandowski is sitting out a Bayern match in the Bundesliga for only the 15th time since joining the club from Dortmund in summer 2014. The record champions have only failed to fire in two of the 14 he has missed, but Cologne will take some encouragement from the fact they have dropped points, drawing three and losing one in games without the Bundesliga's record foreign marksman.

FORM BOOKS

Cologne have taken just two points from their first five league matches of the new league season, and haven't won in 15 Bundesliga outings dating back to Matchday 25 of the 2019/20 campaign (6 March!). Bayern were beaten at Hoffenheim on Matchday 2, but have won all seven of their competitive fixtures since. They can go top with a win - at least for a couple of hours.

HISTORY FAVOURS BAYERN

Bayern have won 13 of their last 15 league visits to Cologne (one draw, one defeat), including each of the last six. Cologne’s last win over Bayern was on 5 February 2011, when they fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

COLOGNE BENCH

It doesn't pack quite as much punch as Bayern's, but here goes: Zieler, Katterbach, Arokodare, Ehizibue, Rexhbecaj, Mere, Drexler, Thielmann and Sörensen. Messrs Clemens, Hector, Höger, Kainz and Modeste are all out.

LEWANDOWSKI RESTED

It's every Fantasy Bundesliga Manager's worst nightmare as Robert Lewandowski doesn't even make the squad. The Bayern No.9 is given a, it has to be said, hard-earned breather, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting leading the line in the Cathedral City. Leon Goretzka is also rested after picking up a knock in midweek, while Lucas Hernandez drops to the bench. Javi Martinez, Jerome Boateng and Bouna Sarr are rotated in, as are returning wingers Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane. What a luxury!
