SCHALKE WIN!

The referee finally puts Paderborn out of their misery. The home side played very well in the first half and had several good chances - especially one gilt-edged one just before the interval - but were made to rue not scoring them. Schalke's experience and ruthlessness in the second half deservedly gives them the points though, even if the final scoreline is a touch harsh on the home team.

HARIT GETS HIS SECOND!

It's all gone pear-shaped for the hosts. McKennie can't quite get a touch on Burgstaller's cross from the left, but Kutucu recycles possession and spies Harit lurking just inside the box. The winger strikes a low shot first time into the bottom corner to add extra gloss to the scoreline.

NOW IT'S ALL OVER

A lightning-fast break from Schalke is perfectly executed. Harit jinks his way down the left and once he gets to the edge of the box he squares the ball inside to Burgstaller. The Austrian striker sees the run of Kutucu and plays him in first time. Kutucu goes around goalkeeper Huth and squeezes the ball over the line from a tight angle.

HUGE CHANCE FOR GUEYE!

Schalke struggle to clear a corner and the ball falls right at the feet of Gueye on the edge of the six-yard box. He shoots first time, but Sane throws himself in the way and clears the danger.
79'

LOVELY SKILL FROM PRÖGER

The Paderborn attacker flicks the ball through Oczipka's legs before spinning around him and collecting his own pass. He then leaps over a desperate lunge from Sane and continues to tear away down the right. It's a brilliant run, but he doesn't have many teammates to aim for in the box and his cross is easily caught by Nübel.
78'

FIRST GOAL IN 10 MONTHS

Harit's strike was his first for Schalke since November 2018, which was his only goal all season.
71'

GAME, SET AND MATCH?

That's surely the points for Schalke now! Kenny plays a nice one-two with McKennie and bursts into the right-hand side of the Paderborn box, before pulling it back to Harit. The Morocco international jinks his way past a defender and places the ball into the bottom corner.

FRESH IMPETUS UP FRONT

Schalke boss David Wagner is not wanting to rest on his laurels here and has brought on 19-year-old academy graduate Kutucu for Uth in a bid to stretch the tiring legs of the Paderborn defence with an injection of pace.

HALF-CHANCE FOR PADERBORN

Mamba gets a brief sight of goal and snatches at a shot with his weaker left foot. Nübel gets down to make a comfortable save, though.

ON COMES MCKENNIE

USA international Weston McKennie takes to the pitch for the final 30 minutes or so, replacing Caligiuri. It'll likely mean Serdar now adopting a more attacking position, with McKennie slotting in alongside Mascarell in the middle.
56'

BURGSTALLER DENIED BY HUTH

Caligiuri curls in another teasing delivery and Burgstaller rises highest to meet it. His glancing header looks to be heading for the top corner, but Huth flings himself at it, getting his fingertips to the ball to tip it wide.
50'

SERDAR GETS HIS GOAL!

Having gone so close just moments before, Serdar puts Schalke in front. An attack looks to have petered out when the ball is pulled back to the midfielder, 25 yards out. He smacks a first-time shot goalwards and it takes a wicked deflection off  Hünemeier , wrong-footing Huth and nestling in the bottom corner.

SERDAR FIRES JUST WIDE!

A nice break from Schalke, led by Burgstaller, ends with the ball coming to Serdar on the edge of the Paderborn box but he bends it just the wrong side of the far post!

ALL SQUARE AT THE BREAK

Schalke have had more of the ball so far (54 per cent) and have had some excellent opportunities to score. They'd surely ahead if not for the heroics of Paderborn keeper Huth. That said, the hosts have carved out some promising openings of their own, and that last chance for Michel is one they might come to regret missing.

MICHEL MUST SCORE...

... but doesn't! Brilliant work on the edge of the box by Vasiliadis, whose reverse pass finds Michel completely free and with just Nübel to beat. It's on his weaker right foot, though, and he skews his shot into the side netting!
44'

MILESTONE FOR SANE

Sane's goal was Schalke's first away goal this season and the club's 1000th away from home in Bundesliga history. The defender has now scored 11 of his 13 goals in Germany's top flight with his head, including his last five.
42'

CALIGIURI BLAZES OVER

Schalke are given a free-kick about 30 yards from goal, towards the inside-left channel. Caligiuri lines it up, but doesn't make a clean connection and fires well over the bar.
40'

CHANCE FOR BURGSTALLER!

Oczipka darts into the Paderborn box down the left and draws goalkeeper Huth towards him, before cutting the ball back to Burgstaller. The striker shoots first time from about 10 yards out, but his goal-bound effort is blocked by Hünemeier.
37'

SCHALKE WANT MORE

Not content to have equalised, Schalke want to make their domiance countand are continuing to push forward. Paderborn are sitting deep, getting almost everyone behind the ball before attempting to burst forward on the counter.

HUTH TO THE RESCUE AGAIN!

Schalke could, and perhaps should, be in the lead now. A cross from the left finds the head of Burgstaller, who guides the ball towards goal from close range. It must be a goal... but NO! Huth is well placed again to keep it out!
27'

MONSTER SAVE FROM HUTH!

Schalke are given some space down the right and the ball comes to Caligiuri, whose shot is deflected into the path of Uth. He's unmarked and only about 10 yards from goal, but somehow Paderborn goalkeeper Huth manages to react and keep out the striker's first-time shot.
26'

HALF-CHANCE FOR PADERBORN

Antwi-Adjei twists and turns on the left-hand side of the Schalke box and smashes an effort towards the far post. It just needs a touch from a teammate to go in, but there's nobody around! The home team have been much better since breaking the deadlock.
24'

BURGSTALLER HEADS OVER

Schalke win a corner, which Caligiuri curls in from the right. Burgstaller does well to fend off his marker, but he can't keep his header down and it goes harmlessly over. Set-pieces look to be the visitors' best chance of finding a way through right now, as from open play Paderborn are giving them next to nothing.
22'

NEXT CHANCE FOR PADERBORN

Lovely play from the home team, switching the play from left to right to exploit the space. The ball is played into the path of overlapping right-back Dräger, who drills a powerful effort just over the bar.
18'

FREE-KICK FOR SCHALKE

Burgstaller, who is making his 100th competitive outing for Schalke today, is fouled about 30 yards from goal. Caligiuri whips it in, but Paderborn's towering defence is able to clear.
14'

SCHALKE CAUGHT COLD

Paderborn have now scored in the opening quarter of an hour in all four of their Bundesliga matches this season. Cauly, who turns 24 today, broke the deadlock with his team's first shot of the game.
9'

PADERBORN LEAD!

Wow! Against the run of play, Paderborn strike first. Schalke are too passive in their defending and allow Michel to cross from the left. Birthday boy Cauly rises to meet it and thunders a superb header into the top corner!
6'

HARIT TO SCHALKE'S RESCUE

There's a roar from the home crowd as a Schalke attack breaks down, giving Paderborn the chance to counter. They have three or four men getting forward at pace, but Schalke midfielder Amine Harit does brilliantly to close down his man and snuff the danger out.
4'

CHANCE FOR CALIGIURI!

The first opening of the game falls to Schalke as a pass clips off a defender's heels and sits up nicely for Caligiuri on the edge of the Paderborn box. He takes it first time but gets his angles all wrong and skews his shot well wide.
3'

GOOD START BY SCHALKE

The visitors, playing all in white, have started well and are playing the ball out confidently from the back. They've already put together some neat, one-touch moves in the final third, but have seen that it'll be tough to break down the Paderborn backline.

KICK-OFF!

And we're off in the final fixture of Matchday 4! Here we go!
Kick-off!

BAUMGART: "WE NEED TO BE DIRECT"

Paderborn boss Steffen Baumgart gave a brief insight into his team's plan for the game earlier this week, saying, "We need to stop their counters and find the space to implement our own game. We need to be direct and decisive."

WAGNER: "EVERYONES EAGER"

Schalke head coach David Wagner was in optimistic mood in the build-up to this game, praising his players for improving in recent weeks. "Everoyne's eager, everyone's pulling in the right direction and they're all switched on. The quality of our training has gone up a level now."

WIN AT ALL COSTS

Schalke's start to the new season has been solid, if unremarkable, with one win, one draw and one defeat so far leaving them slap bang in the middle of the Bundesliga table in 10th. Paderborn, by way of contrast, began with consecutive defeats to Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg, but an improved display on Matchday 3 earned them a point in a 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg. Still, they are second bottom of the table and need a victory sooner rather than later.

ADVANTAGE SCHALKE?

This is just the third competitive meeting between the teams. They played twice during Paderborn's last stint in the Bundesliga in 2014/15, with Schalke winning 2-1 away and 1-0 at home. The Royal Blues also came out on top in a friendly in May 2017, earning a 1-0 victory.
