MCKENNIE DOWN

The USMNT midfielder is down after a challenge from Baumgartlinger, but he will look to carry on here despite being out on his feet after working so hard today.

ADDED TIME

We'll have six minutes of added time at the end of this game.
89'

BUNDESLIGA DEBUT

Jonas Hofmann (no, not the Gladbach one) comes on for his Bundesliga debut. The 23-year-old has been part of Schalke's second team all season.
85'

OF COURSE THEY SCORED...

It's now at least one goal for Leverkusen in each of their 20 competitive games in 2020. Never count them out.
84'

WILL WE SEE ANOTHER GOAL?

As you can imagine, Leverkusen are now in the ascendancy and pushing for a go-ahead goal. Schalke are looking to hold on now...
81'

AN OWN-GOAL TO LEVEL IT!

There's Leverkusen's goal and we're in for a big final 10 minutes. Wendell does superbly to beat Caligiuri to a loose ball on the edge of the Schalke box. He then crosses low into the Schalke box and it's Miranda who pokes the ball into his own net ahead of Paulinho.

OWN GOAL!

FINALLY A WIN?

If Schalke can hold on here, it will be their first victory in 13 Bundesliga games and take them back up to 9th, just five points off a Europa League place.
75'

WINGER ON

Paulinho is on for Demirbay as Leverkusen continue to throw the kitchen sink at Schalke here. Just 15 minutes to play...

Substitution

73'

ALARIO AGAIN!

Another chance goes begging for the Argentine but it's not for the want of trying. In fact, it was a superb block from Kabak. Diaby does the hard work with his run down the right and ball to the edge of the Schalke box. Alario hits it first-time with his right foot, but the Schalke defender makes a fantastic block.
72'

VOLLAND'S SHOT TAME

Good work between the two strikers as Alario returns Volland's pass to him, but it was a crowded Schalke box as Volland shot through Kabak and Nübel gathered with ease.
70'

CHANGES

One youth product for another for Schalke, while Volland is on for Havertz - who must be lacking full fitness - and Sinkgraven is on for Amiri.
64'

LEVERKUSEN LACKING CUTTING EDGE

The away side are still enjoying almost 70 per cent of the ball and 350+ more passes completed than their hosts, but they can't seem to create clear-cut chances on goal from open play.
62'

CALIGIURI NOW SUSPENDED

A note for Schalke fans, Daniel Caligiuri is now suspended after his fifth yellow card of the season. He will miss the trip to Frankfurt on Wednesday.
61'

MCKENNIE BOOKED

The USMNT star is shown a yellow card for a foul on Amiri.
60'

CONFUSION

A Leverkusen pass-back to Schalke was intercepted by Alario and Nübel saved his shot. Leverkusen's forward takes a yellow card as does Schalke captain Caligiuri for his reaction.
57'

CALIGIURI CLINICAL FROM THE SPOT

The Schalke midfielder has converted 14 of his 16 penalties in the Bundesliga, the last of which also came against Leverkusen and Hradecky in May 2019, which he also scored.
55'

ALARIO SO CLOSE!

Great work from Havertz who reaches the byline on the right before dancing past a defender to cross. It meets Alario in the middle of the box and his glancing header has Nübel diving across his goalline, but it bounces just wide of the mark.
53'

AMIRI GOES CLOSE

A curling shot from range by Amiri, but Nübel can tip it over his own crossbar.
51'

CALIGIURI WITH THE SPOT-KICK

And the captain does the business to put Schalke ahead. Kenny's cross was handled by Tapsoba and the captain steps up to take the penalty, playing it down the middle with ease as Hradecky dived to his right.

SECOND HALF UNDERWAY

The ball is rolling again here at Schalke with the second half underway. No changes at the break.
Kick-off!
Half-time
43'

ALMOST AT THE BREAK...

It's been a fascinating first half in Gelsenkirchen. Leverkusen enjoying the ball but Schalke enjoying the game, so far. A big second half to come for both sides.
40'

GOOO... NO!

Alario heads the ball in past Nübel from Amiri's free-kick, but he jumps the gun with his run into the box and is caught offside.
35'

MIRANDA BOOKED

The second yellow of the game goes to Schalke as well, and it's after the Spaniard kicks the ball away.
33'

MISCOMMUNICATION

A fantastic pass from Weiser to Havertz down the right. He reaches the byline and cuts the ball back for Alario who should surely shoot at goal, but instead lets it run thinking a teammate was behind him. Instead, Kenny clears ahead of Diaby and the chance is wasted.
29'

SUPERB SCHALKE

Not something we've been able to say often in 2020. The Royal Blues have been much-improved in this first half, working so hard and making the most of their 38 per cent of possession so far. Still needing that final touch to get past Hradecky.
28'

CHANCES!

Caligiuri is found in space down the left and cuts back onto his right foot with Weiser failing to close him down. His shot stings the hands of Hradecky as he punches it away and Boujellab's follow-up is blocked by Bender.
23'

ALARIO GOES CLOSE

Weiser is up the pitch to recover the ball on the right flank and crosses to the back of the Schalke box. Alario meets it and heads towards goal, but it deflects off Kenny's head and up over the bar. The first chance of the game for the away side.
21'

HALF-CHANCE...

A lovely lobbed ball from Caligiuri into the Leverkusen box finds Kutucu, who controls well and cuts past a defender. But Weiser recovers and wins the ball back and plays it back to Hradecky in the same movement. A vital challenge there.
17'

WORKING HARD

It's been a superb start here from Schalke. Organised as a team, pressing together when needed and most importantly winning challenges in midfield to break-up Leverkusen attacks. So far so good.
12'

SLOW START

Not the attacking flow we're used to seeing from Leverkusen so far. They've had almost 70 percent of the ball here so far, but no attempts on target thus far and no touches in the Schalke penalty area either.
9'

KABAK BOOKED

An early yellow card for the centre-back here after a foul on Nadiem Amiri.
9'

BOUJELLAB UP TOP

Both Bodzgodan and Boujellab are up the pitch supporting Kutucu through the middle in the early minutes here, as you can see checking the average positions of both teams in the Bundesliga app.
7'

SCHALKE SHOWING FIGHT EARLY ON

A lovely flick from Bozdogan takes him past Demirbay and he looks for Kutucu in behind but over-plays his pass. The home side have had little of the ball in the early goings but are working hard and not allowing Leverkusen easy time on the ball.
3'

BIG EARLY CHANCE

It's McKennie with a stunning hit from range, all of 25 yards from goal. It's straight at Hradecky but he can't control it and the ball bounces down for Kutucu on the rebound but he hits it as he's falling and can't keep it on target.
1'

AWAY WE GO!

The ball is rolling at the Veltins-Arena for our final game of the weekend.
Kick-off!

BIG DAY FOR KUTUCU

After making 21 appearances already this season, Ahmed Kutucu finally makes his first start of the campaign. He leads the line for Schalke looking to inspire them to a big, big win.

WHAT'S AT STAKE?

Well for free-falling Schalke, relegation is now impossible after Düsseldorf's defeat to Dortmund yesterday but they will want to end a difficult 2020 on a high this season. For Leverkusen, everything is at stake today. After Gladbach's loss at Bayern they are now in pole position to go ahead of the Foals in the race for the fourth and final UEFA Champions League spot for next season. The two sides currently sit level on points...

THE KING IS BACK

After missing Leverkusen's defeat against Bayern and their DFB Cup semi-final win over Saarbrücken in midweek, Kai Havertz returns to the starting line-up for the away side today. The 21-year-old - who celebrated his birthday during the week - has scored nine of his 11 goals this season in the second half of the season.

GOING LEVERKUSEN'S WAY ALREADY?

Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last five away games (four wins, one draw). Their last defeat on the road was the 2-1 loss to Hoffenheim in early February. As well as that run of form, this fixture between the 12-time Bundesliga runners-up has not ended goalless since October 2000 - two-and-a-half years before substitute Florian Wirtz was born.

SO MANY INJURIES

Poor Schalke have struggled massively in 2020. Should the Royal Blues fail to beat Leverkusen, they will set an unwanted club record of 13 consecutive games without victory in the Bundesliga. As well as lacking form, David Wagner's side have been hit by a mass of injuries to their squad. Burgstaller (knee), Harit (knee), Mascarell (groin), Matondo (groin), Nastasic (muscular), Raman (knock), Sane (muscular), Serdar (knee), Stambouli (match fitness) and Todibo (ankle) are all out today.

DEBUT FOR BOZDOGAN

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder makes his debut for Schalke today. A product of Cologne's academy, the Royal Blues' U19 captain joined the club last summer and has three goals and three assists to his name from 13 appearances this season.

SCHALKE TEAM NEWS

Four changes for David Wagner after Schalke's 1-1 draw with Union last time out. Ahmed Kutuc, Weston McKennie, Nassim Boujellab and 19-year-old Can Bozdogan all come in with Michael Gregoritsch, Benito Raman, Salif Sane and Rabbi Matondo all dropping out.

LEVERKUSEN TEAM NEWS

He's back. King Kai returns to the starting line-up for Leverkusen after missing their defeat at home to Bayern Munich last week. He comes in for Leon Bailey with several other changes. Karim Bellarabi, Julian Baumgartlinger and Aleksandar Dragovic also drop out, with Mitchell Weiser, Kerem Demirbay and Wendell all back in.
