FRESH LEGS

Fringe players nowadays, Marcel Schmelzer and Mario Götze get a run-out for the closing stages - teams are currently allowed five substitutes, remember. Dortmund have done a superb job today, in difficult circumstances. They're moving to within a point of leaders Bayern Munich, who travel to Union Berlin on Sunday.

SANCHO ENTERS THE FRAY

Just when Schalke thought it could not get any worse, Favre throws on Jadon Sancho. With 14 goals and 15 assists, the Dortmund No.7 has had a direct hand in more goals than any other player in the Bundesliga this season... §

GUERREIRO AT THE DOUBLE!

Sublime Dortmund goal. Haaland wins the aerial battle, and cushions the ball into the path of Brandt, who's stationed just inside the Dortmund half. His pass is a beauty - sprayed out wide and into the path of Guerreiro. A tidy one-two with Haaland catches Schalke cold, and the finish leaves Schubert with no chance. Almost side on, with the outside of his left foot - that's naughty!

BURGSTALLER EFFORT

Much better from Schalke, and it's substitute Guido Burgstaller with the chance. The big Austrian digs the ball out on the edge of the BVB area, before turning and hitting a daisy-cutter down the throat of Roman Bürki. That might be the first save the Dortmund No.1 has had to make, but that's encouraging for the visitors.

HAZARD ADDS A THIRD!

Superb breakway goal, and a great bit of advantage played by the referee along the way. Delaney breaks up a Schalke attack on the edge of his own area as Haaland powers up field. He's unceremoniously stopped in his tracks by Sane, but the referee lets play continue. Brandt spots the run of Hazard, plays another fine pass and watches in glee as the Belgian drives in a fierce first-time effort. Surely no way back for Schalke...?

SCHALKE CHANGES

David Wagner turns to striker Guido Burgstaller and former Manchester City youngster Rabbi Matondo. Jean-Clair Todibo and the subdued Benito Raman make way.

GUERREIR-GOAL!

Dortmund get the second goal their dominance deserves. Schubert's put under pressure, and fluffs his attempted clearance. Dahoud picks it off on halfway and duly sets the wheels in motion. Brandt slides in Guerreiro on the overlap, and the Portugal international slams into the bottom corner with aplomb. Schubert is not happy - neither are Schalke. They trail Dortmund 2-0 at the break.

ALL DORTMUND

The home side are pushing hard for a second goal as we approach half-time. Hakimi's goal-bound shot is charged down from Nastasic, before Dahoud spins a fierce effort goalwards from the ensuing corner. Schubert's unsighted in the Schalke goal, but Sane gets in a block.

OVER FROM GUERREIRO

Hakimi puts on the afterburners, leaving a trail of royal-blue shirts in his wake down the Dortmund right. He cuts it back for Guerreiro, who is leaning back and balloons off target. Ring rust from the Euro 2016 winner - you'd expect him to bury those.

HAALAND SCORES!

He doesn't take long to find his range, our Erling! Brilliant from Piszczek to find the run of Brandt midway through the Schalke half. Brandt nonchalantly helps it on with a sublime first touch to play in Hazard. The cross is just as good, and the finish from Haaland is a real delight - one-touch and guided beyond Schubert with his trusty left foot. That's 10 goals in nine Bundesliga games for the 19-year-old. Prolific.

HAALAND CHANCE!

Dortmund win a free-kick as Serdar upends Hazard on the edge of the box, left of centre. Brandt's strike is put behind for a corner, which causes Schalke some real bother. Haaland tussles with Todibo before the ball is eventually whipped in; Hummels is inches from getting his head to Hazards's cross, and Haaland slams the loose ball into the side netting. That's as close as we've come...

TODIBO TO THE RESCUE

Crucial intervention from Jean-Clair Todibo to prevent Hakimi's low cross from finding Thorgan Hazard at the back post. Weston McKennie then hoofs the loose ball clear with the Dortmund shirts swarming.

NOT GIVEN

Dortmund want a penalty after the ball catches the hand of Jonjoe Kenny. The match referee consults the VAR control room in Cologne, but there was no intent there. No penalty.

CHANCES

Daniel Caligiuri crashes a free-kick into the Dortmund wall from a very promising position, just outside the 18-yard box. BVB go up the other end, with Thorgan Hazard bending high and wide from distance.

HAALAND ON THE PROWL

Erling Haaland bulldozes his way through the Schalke half and into the opposition box. He forces a save from the onrushing Markus Schubert, who doesn't hold onto it but recovers at the second attempt. Lucky boy - if Achraf Hakimi had been following in, that would have been a certain goal.

FEELERS OUT

Must be strange for the players down there. You can here every kick and shout inside the Signal Iduna Park. Both sides have made a tentative start...
Kick-off!

REYNA OUT

Gio Reyna will have to wait to make his full Bundesliga debut. The 17-year-old American pulled a muscle in the warm-up, so in comes Thorgan Hazard on the Dortmund left.

BRANDT PSYCHED

Dortmund's Julian Brandt was a late substitute when the two sides met earlier in the campaign, playing out a 0-0 draw in front of a capacity crowd of 62,271 at Schalke's Veltins-Arena. He admits the absence of fans at the Signal Iduna Park changes the flavour of the contest somewhat, but not the meaning. "You don't feel the same pressure as you would in normal circumstances, but in the end, this is the situation that we're in," the Germany international told bundesliga.com. "Everyone will be watching us on Saturday, the Dortmund fans will watch us and the Schalke fans will watch their team. The result of the game will be important to them so it's not like we just say that it's irrelevant who wins or loses, it won't be like this. We do recognise that it would be an important tone to set if we win the game."

DERBY RECORD IN SIGHT

Schalke's Daniel Caligiuri has scored five times in six derby appearances against Dortmund. If the German-Italian finds the net today, he will become the outright Revierderby top scorer. Last season, he famously decided the 94th Ruhrpott rumble with two goals and an assist as Schalke ran out 4-2 winners in Dortmund to all but end their rivals' hopes of landing the title.

WHAT IS THE REVIERDERBY?

Fans or no fans, the Revierderby between BVB and Schalke is a rivalry like no other in world football. The cities of Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen are separated by less than 20 miles in the Ruhr region, for generations Germany's centre of coal and steel production. You could say more unites them than divides them — though duck/run if you say it in Dortmund or Gelsenkirchen! — as they share a hugely passionate, football-mad, working-class fan base. While religious, economic and political differences spice up other derbies, the Revierderby is split simply across one divide: Are you Black-and-Yellow or Royal Blue? There is no middle ground.

DORTMUND TEAM NEWS

BVB coach Lucien Favre throws a curveball by leaving Jadon Sancho on the bench. The England international is on 14 goals and 15 assists in the Bundesliga this season - and has had a direct hand in at least one goal in his last seven home league matches on the spin. Sancho's loss is Gio Reyna's gain, the 17-year-old American making his full Bundesliga debut. There's also a start for central midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, with Emre Can and Axel Witsel sidelined through injury. Erling Haaland makes his ninth appearance at Germany's top table, looking to build on his tally of nine goals in just 512 minutes...

SCHALKE TEAM NEWS

Defender Salif Sane makes his return to the starting line-up after six months out with a knee injury. The Senegal international slots into what looks like a back three, with Everton loanee Jonjoe Kenny and Bastian Oczipka providing natural width in the wing-back positions. USA international Weston McKennie has top scorer Suat Serdar for company in midfield once again. Striker Guido Burgstaller drops to the bench, meanwhile, with Benito Raman leading the line.
