HERTHA CAPITULATE IN THE CAPITAL

Quaison completed his hat-trick in added time following Boyata's rash challenge on Onisiwo. Hertha just didn't create enough in the final third, whereas Mainz were clinicial. Mainz end a four-game losing run; Hertha are now winless in three in all competitions.

TIME ADDED ON

Four additional minutes in the capital...

WOLF SENT OFF

Hammer blow for Hertha as Wolf receives his second yellow card after going through the back of Onisiwo.
88'

GRANDSTAND FINISH

Onisiwo's first real touch is to deliver an inch-perfect cross for Quaison to tuck awat from close range. Hertha respond almost immediately, though, with Jeffrey Bruma inadvertently directing Boyata's flick-on from a corner into his own net.

SZALAI!

The chance Mainz have been waiting for, but it goes begging. Martin hangs up an inviting cross, which Szalai fails to steer on target. Should have done better!
70'

MAIER HAS A GO!

Lukebakio goes up for a long ball, forcing a half clearance from a Mainz shirt. Maier controls on the edge of the area, but spins an effort wide on the outside of his right foot.
67'

TORUNARIGHA MOPS UP

With Hertha pushing forward in numbers, Mainz spot an opportunity to break. A long ball finds Szalai, before Torunarigha recovers to clear. Mainz will fancy their chances of nicking a second on the counter...
57'

DILROSUN ON THE PROWL

Dilrosun now down the left. He digs out a cross, but Zentner is off his line to punch clear ahead of Köpke. The home fans sense a goal coming...
54'

LUKEBAKIO AGAIN

The Belgian breezes past his marker and aims for Piatek, but the Mainz centre-backs do their job. The flanks are looking like Hertha's best route to an equaliser...
50'

WINGMEN

The hosts advance and a teasing ball is whipped into the box, but a Mainz defender snuffs it clear. Already more purpose from Hertha, with Dilrosun and Lukebakio on the pitch.

MAINZ LEAD

Hertha have seen more of the ball, but have done diddly-squat with it in front of goal. Mainz have looked far more of a threat in the attacking areas, on the other hand, and might have had more than the one Quaison goal to show for their efforts. Lukebakio and Dilrosun surely won't be on the Hertha bench for much longer...

QUAISON CHANCE!

Mainz carve open the Hertha defence as Latza sends Quaison into the box with a probing ball up the middle. He takes aim, but the bck-tracking Boyata does just enough to put him off and the Swede shanks wide.
31'

PIATEK SENT CRASHING

Leandro Barreiro gets nothing of the ball, but all of Piatek as the Pole goes to receive a ball at his feet in the Mainz area, but the referee is unmoved.
21'

QUAISON AGAIN

Hertha don't clear their lines, but Jarstein is able to get a foot in before Quaison can pounce and Öztunali puts the loose ball wide. Hertha suddenly look shaky after their bright start.

QUAISON MAKES IT COUNT!

Mainz draw first blood, and it's all too easy! Levin Öztunali spots the run of Robin Quaison, who ghosts past last man Niklas Stark and drives into the bottom corner.

MAIER FROM RANGE

Arne Maier pings a well-struck effort wide from 20 yards. Worth a go after the space afforded to him by the visiting red shirts.
9'

SIDE-NETTING

Ridle Baku tears up the Mainz right, and directs a cross towards the near-post. Adam Szalai gets a touch, but can only find the side netting. Encouraging signs from the visitors, though that wouldn't have counted after the flag went up for offside.
8'

OVER FROM STARK

Hertha win the game's first corner. Niklas Stark meets it, but sends his header over the crossbar. Both teams are going for it in the early stages...
5'

KÖPKE CAUGHT OUT

Pascal Köpke received a lot of praise for his efforts in the DFB Cup in midweek, but the Hertha forward is caught wanting here. He gifts possession to Danny Latza, before Arne Maier intervenes to spare his young teammate's blushes.
Kick-off!

HERTHA ON THE UP

Only goal difference was keeping Hertha out of the relegation zone when Jürgen Klinsmann was appointed interim coach at the end of November. The Old Lady now have a six-point buffer on 16th place, thanks to an encouraging return of 12 points from eight games under the former Germany, Bayern Munich and USMNT boss. His predecessor, Ante Covic, claimed 11 from his 12 matches at the helm.

MAINZ LOOKING OVER THEIR SHOULDER

It all started so well for Achim Beierlorzer. He oversaw back-to-back wins against Hoffenheim and Eintracht Frankfurt after replacing Sandro Schwarz as head coach in the second week of November. The 05ers have won one and lost six since, however, and begin the weekend sitting just a point above the relegation play-off spot.

MORE ON THAT HERTHA TEAM

Krzysztof Piatek makes his full Bundesliga debut. The Poland striker was a second-half substitute in the 0-0 draw with Schalke last week, but started - and scored - in the DFB Cup round of 16 defeat to the same opposition. Young Pascal Köpke was also on target on Tuesday, and retains his place in attack. Marko Grujic and Max Mittelstädt are recalled, but Lukas Klünter, Javairo Dilrosun and Dodi Lukebako - all of whom came on later in that contest - are waiting in the wings once more.

MORE ON THAT MAINZ TEAM

Left-back Aaron Martin has to make do with a place on the bench for the second successive game - can only assume he's still carrying a knock. Pierre Kunde, who went off in the first-half of Mainz's defeat to Bayern, drops out in favour of Danny Latza. Adam Szalai is preferred to Jean-Philippe Mateta in attack, while centre-back Jeffrey Bruma makes his debut following his winter loan move from Wolfsburg at the expense of midfielder Jean-Paul Boetius.
