Maxim inches away...

The Mainz substitute steps up to take a free-kick from 25 yards out in front goal with one of his first touches since coming on. It curls towards the top corner, but not far enough and drifts inches wide of Gulacsi's net.

Another Orban chance!

Halstenberg's set-piece to the back post is met by Orban, who beats his marker to reach the ball first, but he can't get the right contact needed on the ball, and it deflects off him and out for a goal kick.

30 minutes to play... Neither side has been able to take full control of this second half. Both Leipzig and Mainz have shown they can get into dangerous positions with the ball, but beyond Orban's header, with had a limited number of chances on goal. Will that change?

Orban goes close!

The captain will be kicking himself after his glancing header goes right across goal and beyond the far post of Robin Zentner's net.

Leipzig lead at the break

It's been a game of two halves in one half so far in Leipzig. The home side dominated the early procceedings and should perhaps have gone more than two goals ahead, before Mainz recovered and found their goal to leave us with a second half which could go either way.

Mainz back in it!

Öztunali gathers the ball from a deep cross into the box. He turns and returns the ball into the box and Onisiwo is first to the ball to head it beyond Gulacsi's reach. This game is back on!

Big chance for Mainz!

A scramble in the box as a long ball isn't cleared. Mateta's volley drifts wide, but is kept alive and hit at goal. Gulacsi saves the first effort on target before Latza's shot is blocked by the home side's defence, and eventually the ball is cleared.

Almost Poulsen's hat-trick!

Halstenberg's run into the middle opens space for Poulsen, and the left-back finds him with a neat through ball. Poulsen gets his shot away on goal, but it's blocked superbly by Martin.

Chance for Kampl!

The Slovenian is on the end of a move across the Mainz box, as Werner plays him the ball before Kampl takes aim at goal on his right foot. His shot goes high and wide of goal, though.

The lead is doubled!

Halstenberg plays Werner in down the left wing, and he quickly puts a low cross into the box. Sabitzer attempts to flick it on, but doesn't get contact on the ball before it reaches Poulsen and he hits it home for his second of the game already.

Bell with Mainz's first chance

The captain rises highest from a set-piece to head at goal, but shot-stopper supreme Peter Gulacsi makes a solid save to keep the scores level.

The snow is falling...

'Tis the season to be jolly, and the snow is falling hard in Leipzig this afternoon. It shouldn't make a difference to play conditions, other than making the players want to run harder and faster to stay warm.

Halstenberg misses a big chance!

The defender is all alone in the middle of the box from a corner, but he can't get his free header on target. A chance the full-back will be hoping he doesn't come to rue.
Kick-off!

10 minutes to kick-off!

It's the first of our Sunday double-header in the Bundesliga, with Eintracht Frankfurt hosting Bayer Leverkusen to follow this game in Leipzig.

Mainz team news

Mainz come into this game on the back of a 1-1 home draw with Hannover last weekend, a game in which VAR came to their aid in the award of a late penalty converted by Daniel Brosinski. Sandro Schwarz’s men have had a solid if not spectacular campaign to date, boasting the third best defensive record in the division with just 15 goals conceded but scoring just 13, the second fewest. Combative midfielder Ridle Baku remains out with an ankle injury, while Gerrit Holtmann and Emil Berggreen also miss out. Jean-Philippe Mateta, who won the penalty against Hannover, leads the attack once more, while Anthony Ujah remains on the bench despite some impressive cameos off the bench.

Leipzig team news

After a ten-match unbeaten run, Leipzig have stuttered somewhat of late, losing at Wolfsburg and Freiburg in their last two away trips. However, Ralf Rangnick’s men remain a formidable force at the Red Bull Arena, with five wins and two draws from seven games, scoring 17 and conceding just three to climb to fourth in the table. Attacking midfielder Emil Forsberg remains out injured with a calf problem, but the hosts otherwise have a clean bill of health and will be looking to Werner to build on a streak of six goals in his last eight Bundesliga appearances, a team-high eight for the campaign, and four in five games with Mainz.

Mainz:

Zentner – Brosinski, Bell (c), Niakhite, Martin – Öztunali, Gbamin, Latza – Quaison, Mateta, Onisiwo
