Eintracht Frankfurt extended their unbeaten run to five competitive games with a 1-1 draw away to Mainz in the Matchday 10 opener on Friday night.

Mainz 1-1 Frankfurt

Goals: 0-1 Bell (o.g. 37'), 1-1 Serdar (71')

There was a predictably feisty opening at the Opel Arena for this Rhine-Main derby, and although emotions were running high across the pitch, both teams struggled to produce quality attacking moves in the first period. Marc Stendera could have taken an early lead for the guests but dragged his shot wide, before Marius Wolf took advantage of a defensive error by Daniel Brosinski to fire the ball across the face of goal, where it struck Mainz defender Stefan Bell and went over the line.

The hosts were much improved after the break and showed far greater urgency in the final third. They were rewarded for their efforts in the 71st minute when Yoshinori Muto chased down another seemingly lost cause, only to play an excellent cross to the near post, where Suat Serdar charged in to lash into the roof of the net. Mainz looked the more likely side to grab a winner in the closing stages, but there was no late drama in what was ultimately an evenly-balanced game.
