Goals: 0-1 Stindl (5'), 0-2 Hazard (pen. 14'), 0-3 Raffael (20'), 1-3 Ibisevic (28'), 2-3 Weiser (72'), 2-4 Raffael (77')
Gladbach did not need long to get into their stride and were 3-0 up after just 20 minutes as Hertha were left stunned by Lars Stindl's well-taken opener early on. The visitors twisted the knife shortly afterwards when they were awarded a penalty, which Thorgan Hazard emphatically converted. Raffael's long-range thunderbolt moments later appeared to put the result beyond all doubt, only for Vedad Ibisevic to give the hosts hope with a close-range tap-in.
The match was a more evenly balanced affair after the interval and Mitchell Weiser looked to have set up a gripping when he drilled in a low shot following Marvin Plattenhardt's free-kick. However, Raffael soon prodded in his second of the game to take the wind out of the hosts sails and seal a well-earned victory in a hugely entertaining encounter.
