Goals: 1-0 Papadopoulos (9'), 1-1 Wolf (16'), 1-2 Gacinovic (24')
Although Hamburg were first to strike through a Kyriakos Papadopoulos header in the ninth minute, the visitors kept their heads up and started seeing plenty of joy up the right flank. Timothy Chandler constantly found opportunities to cross balls into Hamburg's box, and managed to find Marius Wolf (16') and Mijat Gacinovic (24') as Frankfurt turned the game on its head.
Hamburg did not hold back in their search of an equalizer in the second half. Lukas Hradecky saved a close-range shot from Jann-Fiete Arp, while a Dennis Diekmeier goal was disallowed for offside. Frankfurt kept HSV at bay, though, as Niko Kovac's men moved to within three points of second-placed RB Leipzig.
