Full-time: Preußen 2-0 Hertha

Preußen Münster celebrate a potentially vital victory in the home match on Matchday 33 against Hertha Berlin. Thanks to Hendrix's brace, Pander's team wins 2-0 against the Berliners, who only found their way into the match late and didn't have enough to counter the determination of Preußen.

More pressure

The visitors are putting more pressure on with ten men than they did before with eleven players on the pitch. However, as Schenk plucks down the next Cuisance corner, goalscoring opportunities for the visitors remain scarce.
86'

Quickfire corners

The visitors are pushing for a consolation goal. Cuisance delivers the ball from the right side into the penalty area, but no Berlin player can control it. However, there's another corner to follow.
82'

A big step

If Münster's victory stands, then Preußen will climb in the table and have 35 points to their name, exactly the same number as Braunschweig and Fürth. Unlike their competitors however, Münster have a significantly better goal difference.
80'

Hectic match

With only ten minutes left on the clock, the match is becoming hectic. Amenyido receives a yellow card for a tactical foul and shortly after, Hertha make a double substitution.
77'

Rough Foul

Gechter sees the red card from the referee after the heavy challenge on Preißinger. The Berlin player collided with his opponent at high speed, even though he tried to withdraw his foot at the last moment, there was contact with Preißinger's shin.
76'

Heavy collision

Gechter arrives far too late in the challenge with Preißinger and crashes into his opponent with a stretched leg. Both need medical treatment.
75'

Visitors pressing well

Hertha are significantly better at winning the ball back in the second half and now need only ten seconds. In the first 45 minutes, it was still 17.5 seconds.

Underside of the crossbar!

Karbownik, who has just been substituted on, almost brings Hertha back into the game. His powerful shot from 20 yards only rattles against the underside of the crossbar of Preußen's goal and bounces back into the field of play. Schenk would have had no chance there.
70'

Goooooooal!

Hendrix scores his second of the evening and makes the Preußenstadion shake! After a long throw-in from Lorenz, the Dutchman rises at the near post and heads it almost unhindered past Smarsch into the near corner. The Hertha goalkeeper didn't look good there, even though Hendrix was completely unmarked for the header.

Counter-attack stopped

Maza can only stop Makridis during a counter-attack by grabbing his shirt and receives a yellow card for it.
66'

Preußen primed to pounce

The hosts are now sitting a bit deeper, but are waiting for counter-attacking opportunities and pressing Hertha during their build-up play when the chance arises. So far, this is completely sufficient to keep the Berliners away from their own goal.
63'

Fresh legs

The visitors make a substitution with Niederlechner coming on for Scherhant, hoping to finally create more danger in the attacking third. So far, what Hertha have offered offensively here in Münster has been very underwhelming.
61'

Wide right

Maza shoots with his right foot from the central area from about 30 yards out, but the ball goes well wide of Schenk's goal.
60'

On the line

Smarsch catches a headed back pass under pressure from the opponent just at the edge of his own penalty area. That was close, but it was judged to be fine, according to the linesman, who deemed the goalkeeper to have not handled the ball outside his area.
58'

Maza onto the roof of the net

The technician takes on two opponents on the left side and crosses the ball with his left foot into the middle. His attempt, however, only lands on the roof of the net.
55'

Comes in late

Koulis is a bit late in a challenge at the halfway line against Scherhant and slightly stamps on the Berlin player. The referee shows him a yellow.

Jorrit Hendrix's backheel goal

Hendrix's audacious first-half finish remains all that separates these sides.
51'

Brilliant save!

Smarsch is there with his fists to clear a thunderous header from Koulis away from the line, having had to complete a serious dive to make the save!
49'

Serious injury

Münster, who already brought on Kirkeskov at half-time, must change personnel again shortly after the restart. Mees is unfortunately caught on the leg in a challenge by Kenny and has the weight of the Berlin player on his left knee. The Münster forward has to leave the pitch supported by others. Batmaz comes on to replace him.
48'

Schenk makes the save

A pass is played into the Preußen penalty area but their young goalkeeper is on the spot and clutches the ball before any Berlin player could even get close to the ball.
47'

No Hertha shot

Hertha have over 60 per cent possession, but no goalscoring opportunity! With eight shots to nil for the hosts, Berlin remain without a shot of their own before the break for the first time in five years (last time in June 2020 in the Bundesliga against Mönchengladbach).

Half-time: Münster 1-0 Hertha

Preußen lead deservedly in this crucial home match against Hertha, thanks to Hendrix's magnificent strike. Hertha are offering too little going forward and are somewhat fortunate that Münster haven't been more determined in pursuing a second goal so far as the chances were there.

The visitors are coming

The ball reaches Kenny on the right side via Reese, who delivers a high cross into the penalty area, where the home side can clear it with a header.

+ 2

An elbow

After Kyerewaa uses his elbow too aggressively against Dárdai in an aerial duel and receives a yellow card for it, the match enters the five-minute stoppage time.
45'

Reese angry

Koulis unfortunately runs into Reese's heels on the right side of the penalty area. However, there's no free-kick given for the Hertha captain. This makes him quite angry and he communicates that clearly.
43'

Risky tackle

Bazzoli has to risk everything 25 yards in front of his own goal to prevent Reese from breaking through, and he does it really well with a very strong sliding tackle.
40'

Still no second!

Preußen are pushing on here and, shortly after Mees's shot, they have another attempt. From the left, Lorenz plays the ball into the middle, where Kyerewaa sends the ball from 16 yards out in a central position whistling past the far post. Another big chance for Münster!
39'

Münster coming forward

The home side want to make it 2-0 before half-time and Hertha are offering them opportunities. Mees unleashes a shot from 23 yards during a counter-attack. Gechter just manages to get there in time and blocks the long-ranged effort in the penalty area.
38'

Trailing? No problem!

In three of the last four matches, the Berliners have come back from behind - will they manage to do it again today in Münster?
36'

Coming good

Hendrix already scored the important opening goal in last week's exhilarating 5-0 win in Magdeburg, and he's done it again today. Under manager Hildmann, the Dutchman scored just one goal in the first 31 matchdays, whereas under Pander, he has found the net in both matches.
33'

Almost 2-0!

In the penalty area, Hendrix takes a first-time shot on the end of a cross, his bouncing effort going just wide of the left post. Preußen are clearly the better team now.
30'

Dream goal!

The home side take the lead here with an incredible goal from Hendrix. Hertha lose the ball during build-up play around 35 yards from their own goal and then Preußen play it quickly. Amenyido passes at the right moment into the penalty area to the incoming Hendrix, who is forced wide to the left in the box and then scores the opener with a flash of brilliance. With his back to goal, Hendrix finishes with a backheel, wrongfooting Smarsch and puts so much spin on the ball that it bounces high so that no Hertha player can get a foot to it as it flies into the right corner of the net! Unbelievable finish from Hendrix!

Conductor in the attack

Reese is trying to spark Hertha's offensive play, but against a solid Preußen side, it's proving extremely difficult for the Berliners, as they haven't created any real goalscoring opportunities in this match so far.
25'

Strong in defence too

Makridis manages to win the ball back from Kenny on the left flank and then ultimately hits the Hertha player with his follow-up shot. That results in a throw-in for the home side.
22'

Worked their way in

Hertha have over 60 percent possession, but only the hosts have registered shots so far (2 shots on goal to Hertha's nil). They're also winning significantly more duels (58 per cent).
20'

Next chance

Makridis drives down the left flank and almost deceives Bouchalakis with his step-over in the penalty area, but the defender still manages to get a foot to the attacking player's shot.
17'

Looping header

Hendrix doesn't quite get up high enough to connect with a high ball on the right side of Hertha's penalty area and only manages to head the ball onto the roof of the Berlin side's net.
15'

Good free-kick from Lorenz

After a foul about 25 yards from the Hertha goal, Lorenz gets to try from a central position. His shot has plenty of power and goes narrowly wide of the left post. Smarsch would likely have been caught on the wrong foot there.
camera-photo

Very intense

Both teams are intense in their challenges from the start and are putting on quite a show here in Münster, where there is so much at stake for Preußen.
13'

Down the right

The home side quickly counter-attack and Kyerewaa breaks away down the right. However, his square pass doesn't reach a teammate in Hertha's penalty area.
12'

Dominant

Hertha are putting a lot of pressure on Preußen when they're on the ball and it's working well. So far, Münster haven't been able to develop any attacking momentum.
10'

First corner

The lively Kenny wins the first corner of the match. Cuisance takes it, sending the ball sailing through the six-yard box where Maza gets hold of it. However, it doesn't become dangerous as a through ball from Hertha slides through to the goalkeeper.
9'

Tentative start

Both teams are trying to establish structure in their own play, but currently they are not quite managing to create any real attacking opportunities.
6'

We're back underway!

The referee has restarted the match. Hertha have possession and are passing the ball through their own ranks.
2'

Pause

The match is currently held up because pyrotechnics are being set off in the home section. The smoke is currently restricting visibility too much.
1'

What an early chance!

The ball comes to Kenny on the right flank from the visitors' kick-off. He gets to the ball inside Preußen's penalty area and directs it towards the goal, but a Münster leg gets in the way and the ball rolls past the left post.

Let's go!

We're underway in Münster.
Kick-off!

Ernst out

Hertha goalkeeper Tjark Ernst has injured himself during the warm-up. Dennis Smarsch moves into the starting eleven in his place. Max Mohwinkel is on the bench as a substitute.

Historic

On 9 May 1964, Münster played their last Bundesliga match at home in the Preußenstadion against Hertha! Otto Rehhagel was on the pitch for the Berlin side and Manfred Pohlschmidt scored Münster's last top-flight goal in the 4-2 win that day.

Hertha team news

Derry Scherhant gets the nod in attack today ahead of Florian Niederlechner, and captain Toni Leistner must be replaced due to his serving a yellow card suspension. Andreas Bouchalakis moves into the starting line-up for the first time this season after eight previous substitute appearances.

More on that Münster side

Christian Pander has to make one change compared to the gala performance in Magdeburg: Jano ter Horst is serving his second yellow card suspension of the season, with veteran Sebastian Mrowca coming into the team for him. It's only Mrowca's sixth appearance in 2024/25, as he tore his Achilles tendon last summer and was out for a long time.

Hertha starting XI

Ernst - Gechter, Bouchalakis, Dárdai - Kenny, Cuisance, Demme, Maza, Zeefuik - Reese, Scherhant

Preußen starting XI

Schenk - Mrowca, Bazzoli, Koulis, Makridis - Kyereh, Hendrix, Preißinger, Lorenz - Mees, Amenyido

Permutations

A point for Münster will be enough to guarantee they finish no lower than 16th if Hamburg beat Ulm. Victory for Münster would do the job if Ulm fail to win against HSV.

Stefan Leitl's thoughts on Preußen

"We should stay focused on ourselves, not think too much about the opponent, but rather focus on solutions – on what we can bring to the match. Münster need points to stay in the league, so this away match will be understandably difficult. But we are well prepared, we have have maximum energy, great desire, and goals that we want to achieve."

Christian Pander on facing Hertha

"Hertha are a very good team with superb individual quality. The first priority is to stand firm and not give away too much space at the back. And then we want to be involved in the match and in the end take something away from it."

History

Both clubs were founding members of the Bundesliga.

Happy in Münster

Hertha have won their last four away matches at the Preußenstadion, most recently in the DFB Cup in October 2021. In their last league match in Münster, the Berliners won 6-2 (Bundesliga 2, November 1989).

Way overdue

Münster come from behind to win the reverse fixture 2-1. It was their first win against Hertha since a 1-0 home victory in March 1981.
