Conclusion

Elversberg grab the late equaliser! In a match that for long stretches didn't live up to the hype, Paderborn took a somewhat surprising lead, but subsequently stood compact defensively and had a big chance to seal the match through Michel. Elversberg kept pushing and came up with the jubilantly celebrated equaliser late in stoppage time.

SVE would have deserved the equaliser

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Although the visitors haven't really threatened the SCP goal since the opener, based on the entire match, the equaliser would be completely fair.

Can the Saarlanders come back?

What's still possible for SV Elversberg? After their initial dominance, the picture has changed somewhat since the hosts' opening goal. SVE haven't really looked dangerous since then.

Riemann!

Damar and Petkov combine well on the right wing. The ball is then passed inside to Asllani. However, the striker fails to score from close range as Riemann reacts brilliantly.
49'

Elversberg take the initiative

The Saarlanders are clearly the more active team in the opening minutes of the second half. So far, they're lacking the final pass to create any real danger.
46'

No taker

Damar plays the ball to Petkov in the penalty area. His cross rolls straight through the Paderborn six-yard box - past friend and foe alike.

Half-time in Paderborn

It hasn't been the top match we expected so far. The visitors from the Saarland have been slightly the better side, but overall, both teams have largely been feeling each other out. Going forward, there have been a few penalty area actions, but hardly any clear goalscoring opportunities. The second half definitely offers plenty of room for improvement.

Asllani in space

Neubauer finds Asllani with his cross. However, his header goes a good distance wide of Riemann's goal.
41'

Double chance!

The subsequent corner is dangerous. First, Scheller wins a header at the far post, but there's no one there for the second ball. Then, shortly after, the ball reaches Scheller again via a roundabout, but his shot from about eight metres out goes narrowly wide of the left post.
40'

A hint of danger

Mehlem lays the ball off to Obermair on the right, but Le Joncour manages to clear his cross ahead of Bilbija for a corner.
38'

Little flow - hardly any goal chances

The match so far has been characterised by fouls, interruptions and inaccuracies. There's little to see of the promised top clash.
36'

Could have been more.

Damar strikes it and curls it about two metres wide of the goal.
35'

Good free-kick position for Elv!

Asllani is fouled by Scheller just outside the penalty area. Excellent position for Elversberg.

Petkov delivers a cross following a corner. The ball dips dangerously towards the far post, where the SCP centre-back manages to head it over the crossbar just in time.

15'

Big chance for Paderborn!

Fellhauer plays the ball to Hoffmeier's feet in his own penalty area. Hoffmeier immediately looks for Bilbija with his cross, but the shot from the SCP striker from the right corner of the six-yard box goes over the bar.
13'

Feeling each other out in Paderborn

It remains the same: both teams are taking no risks so far. SCP are largely leaving the ball to the visitors.
10'

Tactical

Pinckert holds Klaas by the shoulder and is consequently shown a yellow card.
8'

Asllani too harmless

The first shot is from the Saarlanders. Asllani hits one first time from the right corner of the penalty area, but his shot is too central, allowing Riemann to catch it easily.
7'

Paderborn's counter-attacking play

After winning the ball, SCP try to quickly get it forward. So far, the passes to Bilbija have been too imprecise.
5'

Good free-kick position

Milestone for Pinckert

The Elversberg player is making his 50th second division appearance today.

Two changes for the visitors

Steffen also makes two changes to his starting eleven compared to the draw against Düsseldorf: Petkov and Şahin play for Feil and Sickinger (both on the bench).

Two changes for the home side

Kwasniok makes two changes to his starting line-up compared to the win in Nuremberg: Curda and Klaas come in for Ansah (suspended due to yellow cards) and Grimaldi (bench).

Elversberg starting XI

Kristof - Baum, Pinckert, Le Joncour, Neubauer - Petkov, Fellhauer, Damar, Şahin, Zimmerschied - Asllani

Paderborn's starting XI

Riemann - Hoffmeier, Götze, Scheller - Curda, Hansen, Klaas, Zehnter - Obermair, Mehlem - Bilbija

What Horst Steffen says

"Lukas Kwasniok and his coaching staff have them playing freely. They have many different options in their build-up play, such as working through set pieces and crosses, but are also technically strong in midfield. It's a task that isn't easy to prepare for."

What Lukas Kwasniok says

"Paderborn against Elversberg, that doesn't sound so sexy. But in terms of content, it's the best that the Bundesliga 2 currently has to offer. Both teams are still hungry. We have more physical power, but Elversberg will counter with greater technical ability."

Curious trend

Paderborn also won the home match in the previous season 3-1 after being 1-0 down, while Elversberg came from behind to win 4-1 at Kaiserlinde. In all three of their Bundesliga 2 encounters to date, the team that scored the first goal has ended up losing.

Comeback in last encounter

Earlier this season, Paderborn raced back from 1-0 down to win 3-1, with Laurin Curda scoring the equaliser (his only goal in 37 Bundesliga 2 appearances).

Steffen's cup triumph

In 2021, Elversberg coach Horst Steffen won the Saarland Cup final 1-0 with his side in the Regionalliga at the time. Elversberg's opponents were Saarbrücken, who were coached by current Paderborn boss Lukas Kwasniok and played one division higher.

Home advantage firmly in Paderborn's favour

Besides their three Bundesliga 2 meetings, there have been six more clashes between these two in the Regionalliga. Paderborn have never lost to Elversberg at home (with three wins and one draw).
