Full-time: Cologne 3-1 Preußen Münster
Cologne deservedly beat Preußen Münster 3-1, although the victory could have been much more comfortable. With this win, the Billy Goats climb past Hamburg to the top of the table, while Münster benefit from the result in Ulm. But they will need to collect the necessary points for survival elsewhere.

Cologne's dominance in midfield
One of the keys to Cologne's victory today has certainly been Kainz, who was able to free himself from all of Münster's pressing situations.

The Preußen captain takes out Kainz during a Cologne counter-attack and is rightly shown a yellow card.

Final phase in Cologne
Is there still something in it for Preußen Münster? As Cologne have missed several opportunities to add a fourth goal in the second half, the visitors have at least still been in the match.

Nice attack from Preußen. They combine through Batmaz and Makridis and enter the Cologne penalty area. In the end, Thielmann clears with a sliding tackle for a corner.

Downs! Unbelievable!
That SHOULD have been Cologne's fourth! Ljubicic is initially denied by the strongly reacting Schenk. The ball bounces off his hand to the six-yard box, where Downs - under pressure from Kirkeskov - hits the crossbar of an empty Münster goal.
60'
Unexpected "goal festival"
For the first time this year, Cologne have scored more than two goals in a league outing. Preußen, on the other hand, have conceded more than two goals for the first time since October.
59'
Huge chance for 4-1!
After a corner, the ball falls to Downs' feet. The Cologne striker is perhaps a bit surprised and shoots over the goal from close range. That could have been the decisive moment...
56'
Cologne's other striker scores as well!
Waldschmidt chips the ball into the penalty area to Downs. He elegantly brings the ball down and shoots from about twelve metres out. Schenk has no chance.
53'
Martel narrowly misses
From the subsequent corner, Hübers impressively flicks the ball on with his heel to the far post, where Martel is just a few centimetres away from scoring Cologne's third.
51'
Shot for the other side as well
At the other end, Thielmann and Ljubicic combine with a one-two. Thielmann's cross is unintentionally deflected by Kirkeskov to Lemperle, who is denied by Schenk. Corner for Cologne.
50'
Münster with the first chance after the break
Batmaz slips the ball through to Kinsombi, who shoots from about ten metres out on the right side of the penalty area but fails to beat Schwäbe.

Half-time Cologne 2-1 Preußen Münster
Cologne are deservedly ahead against spirited Preußen, who made it difficult for them, especially in the opening minutes. Münster were somewhat fortunate to equalise after Cologne's early lead, but the hosts struck back via a penalty and sit provisionally at the top of the table after 45 minutes.

Cologne demand a penalty
After a cross from Martel, the ball touches Scherder's arm. Referee Bauer does not point to the spot.
39'
Bizarre own-goal equaliser
Münster equalise out of nowhere. Hendrix sends Mees into the Köln penalty area. The Münster player attempts to cross but Köln captain Hübers deflects the ball so unfortunately that it loops overthe keeper and in at the far post. Spectacularly unlucky for Cologne.
36'
Münster with more control
Münster are getting into the match and are currently keeping the ball within their own ranks. Cologne are also taking it a bit easier at the moment and are no longer looking for the direct route into the attacking third.
34'
First yellow card of the match
After a misplaced pass from Lemperle, the counter-attack is on. Thielmann sacrifices himself and commits a tactical foul.

Schenk is alert
Another long ball from the Köln defence line towards the front. Münster's goalkeeper rushes out of his goal and clears with his head in front of Downs.

Waldschmidt aims too high
Another cross from Thielmann, another Cologne chance. Waldschmidt's header from about eight metres is a bit too high.
22'
Cologne dominance
Münster made a brave showing, especially in the first few minutes, but Cologne now have everything under control and look significantly closer to scoring a second goal than Münster do to equalising.
18'
Schenk prevents a second Cologne goal
Double chance for Cologne! Again it's Lemperle who has the opportunity from close range. But Schenk prevents the goal with a strong save with his foot. A few seconds later, the Preußen goalkeeper tips a shot from Kainz over the crossbar with his fingertips.

League leaders
With the opening goal, Cologne leapfrog Hamburg into top spot on the table.
14'
Münster not backing down
The visitors aren't hiding after going behind. A blocked shot from Kinsombi is followed by a series of corners - but no danger materialises.
12'
Cologne reap rewards
Cologne take the lead. Preußen are a bit too open after their own advance. Martel looks for Thielmann on the right wing. His precision low cross is tapped in by Lemperle from close range. Schenk gets a touch but cannot stop the ball from crossing the line.
9'
Lively start
Köln quickly transition after winning the ball. Kainz plays it out to the right for Lemperle. He makes a cut at the edge of the penalty area and moves inside. His slightly deflected shot is ultimately no problem for Schenk in the visitors' goal.
7'
First attempts from the visitors!
First, Kinsombi has a clear shooting opportunity from 20 metres out and is denied by the quick-reacting Schwäbe. Shortly afterwards, Makridis dribbles past Thielmann in the penalty area and shoots from a tight angle. Schwäbe is there again and parries it for a corner.
3'
Huge chance for Cologne right away!
After a long ball from Heintz, Downs suddenly finds himself completely free in the penalty area in front of Schenk. But his finish is too imprecise. That really should have been the lead for the hosts.

Struber on facing Münster
"The last matchday has shown how balanced the Bundesliga 2 is and that every opponent must be taken absolutely seriously. You cannot take any opponent lightly. We have it in our own hands if we maintain our focus."
Hildmann on facing Cologne
"Köln are the absolute favourites, but we still want to get three points. The situation is difficult, that's clear. For us, these next five matches are like a tournament. We need to collect points to advance to the next round. We can only succeed as a team; everyone must stand up for each other. We are stable, we are resilient – that gives us courage for the relegation battle."
Before the Bundesliga
Before the Bundesliga, both teams regularly faced each other in the Oberliga. Münster's last goal against Köln was scored by Walter Bensmann in a 2-1 defeat in Köln in February 1963. The last victory was a 1-0 home win in November 1961 (goal by Manfred Pohlschmidt) and the last away win was a 2-0 win in September 1958 under manager Kuno Klötzer.
Münster still without a goal
FC won their last home match against Münster on 19th October 1963 with a 3-0 victory (Wolfgang Overath was among the scorers). In Münster, FC won 2-0 that season, meaning they have won all three professional football encounters without conceding a goal.
Pure tradition
The last time these two teams faced each other was in 1963/64 as founding members of the Bundesliga. Köln became the first Bundesliga champions back then, while Münster were relegated as the second-bottom club and have never returned to the Bundesliga.
Rare Encounter
The first game was the first competitive match between the two clubs in 61 years, with a goal from Tim Lemperle enough for FC to secure one of their many 1-0 victories.
