PADERBORN RUN RIOT

Elsewhere today, there were wins for Paderborn and Heidenheim. The former of the two picked up victory by scoring five times in just 19 second-half minutes. Here are those goals for your viewing pleasure.

HSV TAKE THE SPOILS

Well, it's the result many will have expected ahead of kick-off but that was far from comfortable for Hamburg. Eintracht were the better side for the majority of the game but they missed a number of openings that meant HSV were always in it despite not being at their best. And with Robert Glatzel in your team, you always have a chance. He was the difference, scoring twice to collect the win.

THE DIFFERENCE MAKER

Is Robert Glatzel going to be the man who tops the scoring charts this season?

OFF THE BAR!

Pherai lifts the ball over Heuer Fernandes but the ball bounces off the top of the bar and to safety.

EINTRACHT DENIED PENALTY

A fine counter from the hosts - not for the first time today - sees Lauberbach felled in the box but the video referee adjudges that the initial contact was made outside the box and it will be a free-kick. It's just not going their way today.

GOAL! HAMBURG!

The goal well and truly took the air out of Eintracht and Glatzel has now doubled his - and his team's - tally to make it 2-0. He rises highest to head home at the back post and that should wrap up the points. This is harsh on Eintracht but clinical from HSV.

GOAL! HAMBURG!

Well, we said that all those missed chances from Eintracht were dangerous against a side of HSV's quality and they've now been made to pay. Typically, it's that man Glatzel - who has been so quiet throughout - that opens the scoring. It was a tap-in from close range as the ball landed kindly form a corner. Cruel on the home team but you could feel it coming the longer the game went on.

VUSKOVIC STRIKES WIDE

Moments before picking up a yellow card, Vuskovic lets fly from a free-kick from 25-yards out on the left side of the Eintracht box but he can only curl it wide of the post. HSV still yet to supply Glatzel with anything to feed off and Walter reaches into his reserves to bring both Rohr and Amaechi into the fray.

PHERAI MAKING THINGS TICK

It's been an impressive debut from Pherai so far. He's stood over every set-piece, has run at defenders at pace and been looking to unlock the HSV defence at every opportunity. The former Dortmund man looks a great signing already.

We've had another goal elsewhere, this time in Paderborn where the home side have been put in front by Florent Muslija.

PHERAI TESTS HEUER FERNANDES

A great start to this second-half from the home team and Pherai almost has them in front but his effort from the edge of the box is tipped wide by the diving Heuer Fernandes.

GOAL! HEIDENHEIM!

We haven't had an immediate goal here but it's taken Heidenheim just five minutes of the second half to open the scoring at Hansa Rostock. Stefan Schimmer has the goal there.

DECENT DEBUT SO FAR

Hoffmann surely would have expected to have seen a bit more action in that first-half but, instead, it's been Heuer Fernandes in the Hamburg goal that's been the busier of the two 'keepers. That could all change after the break, though.

ALL SQUARE AT THE BREAK

That's the end of the first period, one that has seen Eintracht go close on a number of occasions, while HSV have struggled to find their range. The hosts have found most of their joy by catching HSV out on the break and the visitors will need to find a way to stop Eintracht finding so much space in behind.

GOALESS ELSEWHERE

There was a feast of goals in the five games played out over the past two days on Matchday 1, but everything is all square in today's three games as we head towards half-time. Paderborn are 0-0 with Karlsruhe and there's also yet to be a breakthrough in Hansa Rostock vs. Heidenheim.

HSV ENJOYING POSSESSION

It's the visitors who have had pretty much all the ball, but they've yet to do anything truly threatening with it. Eintracht will be very happy with their half so far, but they will be disappointed to have not finished off one of a number of chances.

LAUBERBACH GOES CLOSE AGAIN

A really good save from Heuer Fernandes is required to stop Lauberbach this time as he again races free on the break but is denied by the HSV 'keeper who flies off his line to meet the Eintracht forward.

LAUBERBACH TO SCORE FIRST?

It's Eintracht striker Lauberbauch who has tested HSV the most but he just hasn't quite found his range from four attempts. Will he be the man to eventually get on the scoresheet first? He's having a good go at doing just that.

MARX FLASHES WIDE

Again the home team catch HSV cold on the break and this time it's right wing-back Marx who is racing on goal but fires narrowly wide of the far left post. Three openings for Eintracht on the counter-attack now. Will they rue those misses?
8'

EINTRACHT BREAK AGAIN

HSV have looked very tidy so far but they need to be careful as they're caught with a ball in behind their high line once again. They recover well but Eintracht are having early joy on the counter and are targeting space in behind the HSV defence.
5'

KAUFMANN GOES CLOSE

The visitors have had pretty much all the ball in the first few minutes but it's the home side who have a first sight of goal. Kaufmann is freed on the break but he can only fire wide of the near post. It was a good chance.

AWAY WE GO...

The visitors, in their white away kit get us up and running after a slight delay. If the action on the pitch can match the energy in the stands, this is going to be a cracker.
Kick-off!

DORTMUND OR BRAUNSCHWEIG?

The hosts are another side that belt out "You'll never walk alone" before kick-off. There's a rousing rendition going on now, with scarves held aloft and the entire home support singing. HSV's travelling support are responding in kind with massive blue and white flags waving away in their corner. It's all making for a great atmosphere.

FIVE MINUTES TO KICK-OFF

We're almost ready to go in Braunschweig, where it's a cracker of a day. There's a sea of blue and yellow gleaming in the sunshine as the hosts celebrate being back in the second division. Can they cause a major upset on their return? The two teams are now walking out onto the pitch and we'll soon find out.

HOFFMANN READY FOR DEBUT

GUESS WHO'S BACK...

There's a very welcome sight in the HSV ranks today, with Tim Leibold back in a matchday squad for the first time since rupturing a cruciate ligament nine months ago. Great to see.

NEW HSV FACES

Meanwhile, there are two newcomers in the HSV ranks, with Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer and Laszlo Benes both starting in a three-pronged attack. They will operate either side of HSV top-scorer last term, Robert Glatzel.

HOME DEBUTS

As well as former Bayern man Hoffmann starting in goal for the first time since joining the club, Saulo Decarli makes his debut following his loan move from RB Leipzig and there's a first bow for Immanuel Pherai, who was brought in from Borussia Dortmund's reserve side. Fabio Kaufmann also starts for the first time since making his loan move permanent in the summer.

TIM WALTER: "WE WANT TO LIVE UP TO EXPECTATIONS"

And from the HSV camp, coach Tim Walter has said: "We're full of energy and drive before the start on Sunday and we want to live up to expectations. It's nice that traditional clubs like Eintracht are back in the league. We expect a robust opponent with good pace up front."

MICHAEL SCHIELE: "ATMOSPHERE IS GREAT"

The two coaches have been speaking in the build-up to their season opener today, with home team boss Shciele saying: "We're really looking forward to it, although a heavyweight is waiting for us right away. We've made good use of the preparation. It can finally get going and then we'll see where we stand. The atmosphere in the team is generally great. We know the elevator has been going up and down lately, but this year we want to hit the stop button."

WILL THIS BE HSV'S YEAR?

Hamburg came so close to promotion last year but ultimately missed out in the promotion/relegation playoff. The club are now entering a fifth year in the second-tier, but can they make sure it's their last? They'll get a great opportunity to lay down a marker for the remainder of the season today.

FEJZIC MISSES OUT

We're still waiting on the two line-ups to be confirmed but one thing we do know is that home side captain Jasmin Fejzic will not be involved today. The Eintracht goalkeeper has returned a positive rapid antigen test so missed the first game of the new campaign.

ONE HOUR TO TEAM NEWS

We're now two hours away from getting underway in Braunschweig, with team news dropping in one hour. We'll have those line-ups for you as soon as they come in.

WHAT'S IN STORE TODAY

As for today's action, our live game is one of three matches that round out week one of the 2022/23 Bundesliga 2 campaign. Elsewhere, Paderborn host Karlsruhe and Heidenheim travel to Hansa Rostock, with those games - and our live one here between Eintracht Braunschweig and Hamburg - all kicking-off at 1.30pm CEST.

ICYMI: St. Pauli 3-2 Nuremberg - in 60 seconds!

Yesterday's five matches in Bundesliga 2 served up 17 goals in total, with five of those coming in a 3-2 thriller at St. Pauli. The hosts had race into a three-goal lead but had to play out a nervy few final minutes as Nuremberg pulled it back to 3-2 in extra-time. Strap yourselves in for this one.

ICYMI: Kaiserslautern 2-1 Hannover - in 60 seconds!

Another promoted club kicked off the new campaign in style on Friday night as Kaiserslautern marked their return to the second division with a dramatic victory over Hannover. Here's how that one went down.

NOT IF EINTRACHT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO ABOUT IT

Braunschweig are back in Bundesliga 2 as 2021/22 3. Liga runners-up. They've yo-yoed between Germany's second and third divisions in the four years since HSV's relegation from the Bundesliga. So a season of consolidation would go down very nicely indeed...

HAMBURG'S YEAR?

Hamburg gave Hertha Berlin a real scare in the relegation/promotion play-off last season, before ultimately coming up just short in the two-legged tie. After fourth- (x3) and third-placed finishes, can the Dinos make it a case of fifth time lucky in 2022/23?

WELCOME!

Matchday 1 of the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign draws to a close on Sunday, when promoted Eintracht Braunschweig host fallen giants Hamburg. You do not want to miss this one!
