Baku - Borussia Dortmund remain on course for a place in the UEFA Europa League knockout rounds after recording a 3-1 victory away to Azerbaijani side Qäbälä FK.

Qäbälä FC 1-3 Borussia Dortmund

Goals: 0-1 Aubameyang (31'), 0-2 Aubameyang (38'), 0-3 Aubameyang (72'), 1-3 Dodo (90+3')

The match could have ended rather differently if the hosts had taken advantage of the several good chances they had in the opening quarter of an hour, with Dortmund’s defence uncharacteristically sloppy. However, Thomas Tuchel’s men rode their luck and took the lead in the 31st minute when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang curled a glorious strike into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

The Gabon international doubled his tally just before half-time, finishing off a well-worked move by poking in from an acute angle. The pace of the game dropped off somewhat after the break, but Aubameyang put the result beyond all doubt by tapping in from close range after Sven Bender’s excellent volley had been saved. Dodo grabbed a consolation for the hosts in stoppage time, but it was too late to salvage anything from the game.

Man of the match

This was no vintage Dortmund performance but they did they job they were required to do in a professional manner. And as has so often been the case in recent weeks, Aubameyang proved to be the match-winner, netting a treble to take his tally to 14 goals in his last 12 competitive outings.

BVB are still unbeaten in European competition this season and continue to sit atop Group C on seven points, putting them in pole position to reach the next round as group winners.
