Dortmund - Borussia Dortmund became the first Bundesliga side to book their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League after an easy 4-1 win against Galatasaray SK.

Marco Reus bagged his tenth Champions League goal shortly before half-time and second-half efforts from Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Ciro Immobile and a Semih Kaya own goal - with a Hakan Balta header sandwiched in between - ensured BVB's place in the knockout stages for the third season running.

Reus on target

Heading into this game on the back of three straight wins at Europe's top table - the last of which was a 4-0 hammering of Galatasaray a mere fortnight ago - meant Dortmund started the game somewhat lethargically. Only Sokratis threatened the visiting goal in the opening half hour, the Greece international glancing a header against the bar.

Heading into the interval, however, the hosts' passing and movement began to click and a flurry of chances came and went. Shinji Kagawa curled one wide before man-of-the-moment Reus made the breakthrough, sprinting through to coolly nutmeg the goalkeeper. Neven Subotic, named in the starting line-up despite the part he played in the Klassiker defeat to FC Bayern München, then skewed over from a corner and Henrikh Mkhitaryan volleyed off target after a classy move.

Comfortable evening's work

BVB had threatened to double their advantage before the break and a second goal duly arrived nine minutes after the restart as Sokratis stabbed home from close range. Balta headed in the first goal conceded by Jürgen Klopp's men in the Champions League this term, but Immobile then poked home moments later to restore the hosts' two-goal cushion and Semih back-heeled into his own net to condemn the visitors to another heavy loss.

The result also means Borussia now need just a point to guarantee top spot after RSC Anderlecht drew 3-3 at Arsenal FC in Group D's other game. They may be in the Bundesliga's relegation zone, but Europe's premier club competition continues to bring Klopp's men more than a measure of relief.
