Munich - FC Bayern München have slashed ticket prices for away fans travelling to London's Emirates Stadium on 19 February, when the Reds will contest the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie with Arsenal FC.

The Reds have been allocated a total of 2,974 tickets, but revealed on their club website on Thursday that they had received over 18,000 applications.

Arsenal have priced standard tickets at 62.00 GBP (€75) each, so with that in mind, FC Bayern have, as a thank-you to the supporters that come in their droves to get behind the team, announced that tickets for fans in the away section will be priced at €45 instead of the face value €75.

"Amazingly passionate support"

A statement on fcbayern.de read: "Last season, FC Bayern didn't thrill Europe just through the performances of the team. The fans also played a large part, with their amazingly passionate support, and the UEFA Champions League final in London on 25 May, as well as the UEFA Super Cup final in Prague on 30 August, are two perfect examples that will not be forgotten."

"However, so many supporters come to not just the flagship matches but also every away game and that really is something special. With so many games, that level of support is not just a huge investment of time, it also puts a strain on the wallet. Therefore, the club is knocking €90,000 off the collective price by making each ticket just €45, as a way of saying thank you for the outstanding support in the calendar year of 2013."

Bayern play their second leg against the Gunners in the Allianz Arena on 11 March, four days before hosting Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Matchday 25 in the Bundesliga.
