Nyon - FC Schalke 04 find Real Madrid CF between themselves and a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The Royal Blues knew they would be handed a difficult tie after finishing second in their group, but they can look forward to welcoming the merengues to Gelsenkirchen aware that their opponents have not won on German soil since 2000.

bundesliga.com summarises the Schalke reaction to Monday's draw...

Coach Jens Keller: It's a great draw, also for the fans! To be able to measure ourselves with the most famous football club in the world with players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Iker Casillas or Gareth Bale – that's really something to look forward to.

Captain Benedikt Höwedes: I'm delighted with the draw and to the two games against Real Madrid. It's a shame that Sami Khedira won't be playing due to injury. It's going to be something new for me to play in the Bernabeu. Even if Real will be absolute top favourites, I think we've got an outside chance.

Julian Draxler: This draw is a real Champions League highlight. It was always my dream to play against Real Madrid and in the Bernabeu. It could hardly have been any harder for us, but we'll face up to the challenge and I'm looking forward to both games.

Kevin-Prince Boateng: They're going to be really nice, emotional games. Real Madrid are one of the best teams in the world. Even though it's going to be very difficult, if we all pull together and in the same direction, then we always have a chance over two games.

Ralf Fährmann: Real Madrid was the draw I really wanted. I said to my brother before the draw that we'd get them, and now every single one of us can look forward to it. Real are a great team and they have a great stadium. We're the rank outsiders, but maybe that plays into our hands because Real could under-estimate us. We can show in these two games what we've got going for us.
