Munich - After the first half of the season, UEFA have revealed the updated coefficient rankings which edge the Bundesliga closer to the Premier League and La Liga.

The German top division is in third place and now only 2822 points behind its English counterpart in second, although the Spanish top flight remains in the lead.

Five representatives

In 2013/14, La Liga and the Premier League have seen six teams advance to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League, while the Bundesliga only has five after the exit of SC Freiburg in the Europa League.

The Bundesliga does, however, have four teams in the Champions League last 16 for the first time ever after the group stage success of holders FC Bayern München, last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund, FC Schalke 04 and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
