Marseille - Kevin Großkreutz couldn't hide his delight after helping Borussia Dortmund book their place in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages courtesy of his late winner against Olympique de Marseille.

Speaking after the 2-1 away victory at the Stade Velodrome, the 25-year-old Dortmund local expressed his joy at seeing last season's finalists advance to the competition's last 16, and praised die Schwarz-Gelbe's "mad" faithful.

Question: Kevin Großkreutz, congratulations! What crossed your mind when you scored, as well as after the game?

Kevin Großkreutz: I'm overwhelmed with joy, both to have found the net and finished a long goal drought as well by scoring such a crucial goal. To have celebrated the win with our fans after the game was the greatest reward. They're a mad bunch, in a positive way of course.

Question: You probably received quite a number of text messages after the game.

Großkreutz: I was actually told in the dressing room to rest my mobile for a moment. I must have received about 5,000 texts, and I think it's safe to assume a lot more will come in over the course of the night.

Question: Would you please describe to us how your goal came about?

Großkreutz: Julian Schieber set it up nicely, but I slipped and didn't connect with the ball very well. I was certainly lucky to find the net. Then, it got all emotional. I'm just delighted the goal sees us through, the team fully deserves it.

Question: Qualification for the knockout rounds wasn't necessarily on the cards though, was it?

Großkreutz: We failed to score from a number of opportunities which kept things tense right until the end. You have to maintain your belief throughout the game, something we've proved many times in the past we're capable of. I'm really glad we were able to do it again in Marseille.

Question: Borussia have had to cope with numerous injures lately, as well as a loss to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga last weekend. How much of a relief is this victory to the club?

Großkreutz: Things truly haven't always gone in our favour in the first half of the season. As a result the team and do all our fans deserve this victory even more so.

Question: Is there a particular side you hope to face in the next round?

Großkreutz: I don't want to think too far ahead right now. I'm just glad we're through to the last 16. But of course we hope to be able to progress even further.
