Dortmund - Borussia Dortmund have suffered a major blow in the build-up to their meeting with rivals FC Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League final after it was confirmed that star midfielder Mario Götze will miss the game through injury.

The 20-year-old was withdrawn from the second leg of the Yellow Blacks' semi-final against Real Madrid with a thigh problem, but it was hoped that he would recover in time to face Bayern, the team he will be joining in the summer. However, his recovery is not yet complete and the Germany international must now watch the action from the sidelines.

Bitter

Götze himself, who had returned to team training yesterday, was understandably devastated to be missing potentially the biggest game of his career.

"Being fit for the final was my only focus, and I fought really hard to get there in the last few weeks. I'm unbelievably disappointed not to be able to help the team in such an important game. But I have total confidence in the guys and of course I'll be there cheering them on from the sidelines," he promised.
