Wolfsburg - VfL Wolfsburg have signed Brazilian centre-back Dante from Bundesliga rivals FC Bayern München.

International experience

The 31-year-old, who will wear the number 18 shirt, penned a three-year contract valid until 2018.

“I’m looking forward to the new challenge at Wolfsburg and to continue playing football at the highest level here,” Dante told Wolfsburg’s official website. “I’m convinced we can build on the success from last season and compete for titles.”

“We’re delighted that Dante has chosen to join Wolfsburg,” said club sporting director Klaus Allofs. “He’s a player who will improve our options and quality in defence. On top of that he has a great deal of international experience, which is important for us now that we’re competing in three competitions.”

'An excellent addition'

Head coach Dieter Hecking added: “Dante is a proven Bundesliga player who can help us straight away. The fact he’s left-footed gives us greater variety in central defence. His footballing qualities and character make him an excellent addition to our squad.”

Dante, who also previously played for Borussia Mönchengladbach, has so far made 179 Bundesliga appearances, scoring 11 goals. He has earned 13 caps for Brazil and won the UEFA Champions League in 2013 with Bayern, as well as the last three Bundesliga titles.
