Stuttgart - VfB Stuttgart striker Daniel Ginczek will not play again until next year after the club revealed he is to undergo surgery on a herniated disk.

The 24-year-old is the Swabians’ top scorer so far this season with three goals and one assist, so his absence will come as a big blow as they look to move off the foot of the table.

Ginczek was diagnosed with the injury prior to Stuttgart’s fixture away to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Matchday 8 and did not feature in that game.

After the club’s medical staff held discussions with the player and external consultants, it was decided that surgery would be the best course of action. Ginczek will be operated on in Munich on Friday 16 October.
