The 22-year-old, who made just 11 English Premier League starts for his parent club last term, has already joined up with his new teammates at their eight-day pre-season training camp in Mittersill, Austria.

"Abdul is an attacking left-back, of whose qualities I'm completely convinced," said new Schalke coach Markus Weinzierl. "With his attitude, he's perfect for us."

Baba will be a familiar face to Bundesliga fans, having made a name for himself during SpVgg Greuther Fürth's one-season stay in Germany's top flight in 2012/13. He moved to FC Augsburg in summer 2014, playing under Weinzierl, before joining Chelsea 12 months later.
