1. FSV Mainz 05 kicked off their USA tour with a resounding 6-0 win over the Colorado Switchbacks in Tuesday’s friendly encounter.

The Bundesliga side and #BLWorldTour representatives showed they have quickly acclimatised to their steamy, high-altitude surroundings in the Rocky Mountains with an early opening goal from Pablo De Blasis.

They had to wait until five minutes before the break, however, before doubling their advantage. Both Yoshinori Muto and Christian Clemens had been denied before Gerrit Holtmann drilled a low shot into the net. Clemens then finished fine approach play from Holtmann and debutant Jose Rodriguez to make it 3-0 before half-time.

Despite five changes made at the interval by coach Martin Schmidt, Mainz did not break stride. Jairo Samperio cutely chipped home a fourth six minutes into the second half with Besar Halimi adding the fifth.

Jhon Cordoba passed up two opportunities before finally finding the net in the closing stages to complete a morale-building victory, and earn his side the F.R.E.E.D.O.M. Cup.
