Countdown to the Bundesliga re-start: key dates in summer

Reigning Bundesliga champions FC Bayern München will kick off the 2016/17 season with a home game on Friday 26 August, but before then there are plenty of important events to mark in the calendar.

3 – 26 June: A total of ten Bundesliga players are involved at the Copa America Centenario in the USA. Current title-holders Chile, who lifted the trophy on home turf last year, have Bayern's Arturo Vidal, Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Charles Aranguiz and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's Eduardo Vargas in their ranks at the tournament.

10 June – 10 July: There are numerous Bundesliga representatives at UEFA EURO 2016, and the nations with most members from Germany's top flight are Austria (15), Germany (13) and Switzerland (11). Click here for a club-by-club guide to which players are participating.

18 June:
DFB Cup first round draw. Bayern won the competition in May after beating Borussia Dortmund 4-3 on penalties in the final in Berlin.

29 June: The DFL (Deutsche Fußball Liga) will publish the fixture schedules for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 on 29 June. The announcement will once again be made within an online presentation. The site schedule.bundesliga.com, which is already online, also offers a great deal of additional information. Reaction to the schedule release will be collected on twitter using the hashtag #bundesligaschedule.
