League President Dr. Reinhard Rauball and DFL CEO Christian Seifert have congratulated Germany on winning a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games.

League President Dr. Reinhard Rauball:

"Unfortunately, the gold didn't happen at the end of a thrilling final, but winning silver is also reward for an exceptional team performance - and a fantastic conclusion to Horst Hrubesch's coaching career. Horst Hrubesch managed to put together a functioning unit in very little time and inspired the players to pursue the Olympic dream. Together with the gold medal won by the women's national team it is a superb result for German football."

DFL CEO Christian Seifert:

"It's a shame that there was no icing on the cake at the end of a dramatic final. But Horst Hrubesch and his team shouldn't feel sad about missing out on the gold medal; instead they should celebrate the silver. They should be proud of the achievement. On that point, congratulations and respect for the performance at this tournament. The team accomplished something great in Brazil. In spite of the challenges with regards to preparation for the season and the DFB Cup games, close dialogue between DFB sporting director Hansi Flick and the clubs enabled a competitive team to be put together. The players will never forget these experiences - their clubs will also benefit from them."
