Borussia Dortmund newboy Ousmane Dembele has revealed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Thomas Tuchel had a major influence on his decision to move to the Bundesliga runners-up.

BVB announced last week Dembele would join them on a five-year contract from French side Stade Rennais FC where the teenager, who turned 19 on 15 May, burst to prominence with 12 goals in 26 appearances in his maiden Ligue 1 season.

Given his eye-catching displays, the exciting attacking midfielder did not want for suitors, but he told Dortmund’s official TV channel the words of Dortmund goalgetter Aubameyang had helped convince him his future lies at the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.

'Auba told me...'

"I talked to Aubameyang on the phone," Dembele explained. "He told me BVB is a great club, and then I came here and saw the club's great infrastructure for myself. The conditions are amazing, that's why I decided to play here."

Tuchel has a track record of blooding young players, most recently Christian Pulisic, who seized the chance given him by the BVB boss last season, earning himself international recognition with the United States senior team with his performances during the 2015/16 campaign.

Thomas Tuchel's track record of blooding youngsters convinced Dembele to join Dortmund.

Dembele acknowledged the philosophy of the man he will now play for had also been fundamental in his decision to swap France for Germany.

"The coach was very important for me, because I like what he has planned for the team, and I like that this includes young players," he said. "He told me that if I work hard, I'll get to play. He was very convincing and contributed to my decision."

Tuchel praise

Following the announcement of Dembele's arrival, Tuchel had had high praise for the teenager, who was named the Players' Young Player of the Year in France last season.

"I'm over the moon with the signing of Dembele and I can't wait to work with him," Tuchel told media at his customary pre-match press conference ahead of BVB's season finale against 1. FC Köln. "We worked very hard to get him and we're very excited about his arrival."

The former 1. FSV Mainz 05 tactician added: "Youngsters know how things work here: great fans, packed stadia and a lot of attention - but Dembele's ready to play in the Bundesliga. He's a technically gifted player and a real goal threat."
