History

A national institution, Bayern are the Bundesliga's record champions and challengers both on the domestic and the international scene every season. Catalan tactician Pep Guardiola steered the Bavarians to a record fourth consecutive title in 2015/16, with youthful signings such as Kingsley Coman, Douglas Costa and Joshua Kimmich adding to an embarrassment of riches already in the squad.

France international Kingsley Coman is enjoying a two-year loan deal at Bayern from parent club Juventus.

Manchester City FC-bound, Guardiola has been replaced by Carlo Ancelotti, and the hope at the Allianz Arena is that the Italian can deliver what the Spaniard could not - a first UEFA Champions League title since 2012/13. The summer acquisitions of former Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels and SL Benfica teenager Renato Sanches - now a European champion with Portugal - mean Bayern look set to maintain their status as one of the world’s super clubs in the years to come.
